Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, you’ll notice it’s a vibrant town with shops, cafes, and a lively market. This hike helps your body adjust to the altitude while offering stunning views of Everest and other peaks. Khumjung Village is home to the famous Khumjung Monastery, which is said to house a yeti scalp. This monastery is a spiritual center for the Sherpa people and offers a tranquil setting with magnificent mountain views. After exploring Tengboche, you’ll descend through rhododendron forests to reach Diboche. This part of the trek is more challenging due to the higher altitude and rocky terrain. The views become increasingly dramatic as you get closer to the base of the Khumbu Glacier. The trek to Lobuche takes about 5 to 6 hours. You’ll start early and trek towards Everest Base Camp (EBC), the ultimate destination. The trail is rugged and crosses glacial moraines. As you approach EBC, you’ll see tents of expeditions during the climbing season. Standing at the base camp, you’ll have a sense of achievement and can take in the surroundings, with the Khumbu Icefall and towering peaks around. After spending some time at EBC, you’ll trek back to Gorakshep, a small settlement with basic accommodations. The climb is steep but rewarding, offering incredible photo opportunities. After descending back to Gorakshep, you’ll take a helicopter ride back to Kathmandu. The helicopter flight is an exhilarating experience, offering aerial views of the Himalayas and the trekking route you just completed.
