It is located at the junction of three mountain ranges, the Kurrakuram, Hindukush, and Himalayas. It is also a junction point between Skardu and Gilgit. The road to Skardu branches off about six kilometres towards Gilgit.

Historically, Juglot was strategically important as it lay along the route linking British India to China via Kashmir . Bunji, the historical garrison of the army of the Maharaja of Kashmir, is situated across the River Indus. The struggle for Kashmir's independence from the Sikh Manharaja of Kashmir also originated in Juglot.

Even today, Juglot is the most important logistic base for the Pakistan Army. It gained this importance from the 1984 war in Siachin, which became the highest battleground in the world. Much of the development of Juglot is a result of the Army's presence.

Juglot is located in a fertile valley with rich natural resources. It is one of the business hubs of the Northern Areas because all six districts have access through Juglot. The town also contains the largest oil, wheat and flour depots for the Northern Areas. It has independent power generation facilities and sufficient electric power to attract a number of flour mills and marble plants. Even Artesanal gold panning in the Indus river is still carried out by a tribe known as the Soniwals (gold hunters).

The people of Juglot are tribal in nature, and have a reputation as hard-working and devout Muslims. The population of Juglot, including the suburbs, is approximately 45,000 in 3200 houses, with an education rate of 48%.

A beautiful and memorable journey

19-Nov-2020

A beautiful and memorable journey in Pakistan. These landscapes are just awesome. I went to K2 base camp with my friends. I was very nervous before going to Pakistan. I found visit in Pakistan team via couple of searches. Half of my fears and lots of questions got solved at first conversation with their guide. Their way of communication, management, pricing, and hosting was super easy and friendly. Our group impressed and had an amazing experience in Karakorum, Baltoro, Baltistan and on K2 base camp. I would have enough time to stay few days at Base camp. I whish I could spend more times in Pakistan. Next time, will plan more better and have more time to stay connected with Mountains. A must recommended trek. A must recommended tour operator to organize treks.
