Your Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts today! After spending the day arriving in the city, you’ll meet your fellow travellers and your Adventure Leader on the rooftop of your hostel. Here, you’ll learn all about the adventure to come, and get some tips on staying safe while travelling in Nepal.

After this, we’ll head out to Durbar Square – more commonly referred to as ‘the Museum of Temples’ – to explore its many palaces, courtyards, and temples. Next, we’ll head to one of the amazing restaurants for a Welcome Dinner with the rest of the group, where you’ll get your first taste of Nepal’s culinary scene.

Following that, the night is yours to enjoy as you wish! Why not head to the Thamal District for a chance to dive into the live music scene?

Day 2 : Momo-Making In Pokhara

Location: Pokhara

Accommodation: Hostel

Accommodation Name: Dragon Hotel Damside

Meals Included: Lunch

This morning we’re on to one of Nepal’s most iconic cities – Pokhara!

Arriving in the early afternoon, you’ve got some free time to acclimatise before we reconvene to head off to our next unmissable activity – a momo making class! Here, you’ll learn all about the traditions of Nepalese cuisine – and get a chance to try them too!

Day 3 : Breathtaking Views & Epic Activities In Pokhara

Location: Pokhara

Accommodation: Hostel

Accommodation Name: Dragon Hotel Damside

This morning, you have some free time to spend as you please. Aside from its breathtaking views, Pokhara is also renowned for its epic adventure activities, which is exactly what is featured in our optional experiences this morning. Choose from:

- Kushma Bungee Jumping* – AKA, the second highest bungy in the world. Dare to take it on? The price, including photos/videos, is 75 USD, plus transportation.
- Paragliding* – for those who want to take things one step higher, opt for paragliding where you’ll soar above Pokhara for some truly remarkable views. The price is 75 USD and trekking shoes or trainers must be worn.
- Mountain Museum – for those who don’t fancy falling or flying, why not visit Pokara’s Mountain Museum? Listen, if there’s anywhere in the world to visit a mountain museum, we’d say Nepal wins. The price is 500 NPR (roughly £2.80).
- Relax near the lakeside – a simple, yet beautiful option, for those who want to bask in the views of Pokhara.
*Must be booked on Day 1 with your Adventure Leader.

However you choose to spend your morning, we will regroup mid-afternoon for our next unmissable adventure – boating on the Phewa Taal Lake! Hop on board and glide across the crystalline surface, whilst taking in the panoramic views of the Annapurna range – your soon-to-be stomping ground!

In the evening, you can opt to join your group for a movie night at the Movie Garden nearby.

Day 4 : Trek To Ghorepani Village

Location: Ghode Pani

Accommodation Name: Teahouses

Day 4 of your Annapurna Base Camp Trek tour, you and your travel buddies can enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel at your own expense before departing Pokhara and heading towards the Himalayas, ready to start a beautiful exploration of Nepal’s natural world. Hop on a bus and then a jeep, passing through Pokhara City and other quaint, local villages.

Note: This is rural Nepal, so while the views out the window are breathtaking, the journey will mainly be on mountain roads and will take around 4 hours. In other words, it might not be the most comfortable trip of your life, but it will definitely be worth it.

On arrival, you’ll begin your trek to Ghorepani village – a 2.5 – 3-hour, uphill hike through the jungle and mountains. There will be an opportunity to take breaks as and when necessary for those having any difficulties going uphill and, of course, a stop for lunch at a restaurant with mountain views!

Arriving in the evening, you’ll stay in a local guesthouse for dinner and amazing sunset views.

Day 5 : Hike To Poon Hill

Location: Poon Hill

Accommodation Name: Teahouses

Today, you have the option to wake early for a hike to Poon Hill (3291m) to watch the sunrise over the Himalayan Range. This is a 1-hour hike that is predominantly uphill.

Back at base, you’ll enjoy breakfast at the guesthouse before saying goodbye to your hosts. You’ll then set off on a nearly, 6-hour trek toward Tadapani village, passing through jungles and various peaks along the way. The first hour and the 45 minutes of this hike are uphill, with the remainder being downhill.

There will be opportunities for breaks, including a lunch stop at midday, before reaching Tadapani in the late afternoon. Once there, we’ll enjoy a well-earned dinner while taking in the stunning sunset (weather permitting), before settling in for the night at the guesthouse.

Day 6 : Abc Trek - Tadapani To Chomrong

Location: Chhomrong

Accommodation: Lodge

Accommodation Name: Chhomrong Guest House

2100m, 5-hour walk

Today marks the start of what you’ve all been waiting for – the Annapurna Base Camp trek! After a fuel-filling breakfast at the guesthouse, we’ll part ways with the rest of your group and head onwards for Annapurna Base Camp!

Descending from Tadapani Gurjung, we’ll be treated to spectacular views of the upper Modi Valley. After a walk through the forest, we’ll emerge into a clearing with three lodges, where the panoramic vistas of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and Machhapuchhre are simply breathtaking. From Chuinle, the path winds down terraced mountainsides to the Khumbu Khola – a stunning river, part of the Annapurna Conservation Area.

After crossing a suspension bridge, a brief climb leads us to a rolling path that takes us to the top of a landslide area, where a solitary tea house awaits. A short, easy descent brings us to the trail junction for Jhinnu. From there, we’ll ascend stone steps to the top of Chhomrong, before heading down to the cosy New Chhomrong Guest House for the night.

Day 7 : Abc Trek - Chhomrong To Dobang

Location: Bamboo

Accommodation: Lodge

Accommodation Name: Lodge

2520m, 6-hour walk

We’ll zigzag down 2,500 stone steps before crossing a bridge high above the Chhomrong Khola River. Then, it’s time to tackle an uphill adventure to Sinuwa – a small village, located roughly 2,340 metres above sea level. From there, we’ll meander through a gorgeous forest to Kuldihar, followed by a breezy (yes, breezy 😉), downhill stroll to Bamboo in time for lunch. After fuelling up, we’ll continue our trek to Dobang where we’ll rest up and enjoy dinner in the peaceful ambience of the surrounding forest.

Day 8 : Abc Trek - Dobang To Deurali

Location: Deurali

Accommodation: Lodge

Accommodation Name: Lodge

3230m, 5-hour walk

We start day 8 of your Nepal adventure trip by weaving through a misty bamboo forest – a rather chilly and damp atmosphere, with a few challenging uphill sections. But don’t worry – things open up as soon as we reach the Himalaya Hotel, where the sun finally greets us, and we’re treated to incredible views of the glacial river below. After that, it’s a steep but rewarding climb through a drier forest before reaching the legendary Hinku Cave – a natural rock shelter that historically provided a resting spot for trekkers and porters.

Then, the trail dips down toward the river, only to climb back up again to Deurali, the most breathtaking stretch of the day. With sparser trees, we’re spoiled with magical views of the valley, the winding river below, and towering cliffs above, decorated with delicate, wispy waterfalls.

Day 9 : Abc Trek - Deurali To Annapurna Base Camp

Location: Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Accommodation: Lodge

Accommodation Name: Lodge

4130m, 5–6-hour walk

As we climb above Deurali, the valley opens up, revealing jaw-dropping views of snow-covered peaks – and the best part? The trail finally eases up and becomes less steep! After passing Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we take a left turn in the valley, leading us on a pleasant stroll up to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). With the higher altitude, you might feel the thin air, so we’ll take it slow and steady – no need to rush!

Soon, you’ll find yourself at Annapurna Base Camp – surrounded by a spectacular amphitheatre of snowcapped mountains, including the mighty Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) (6,997m), and other breathtaking peaks.

Day 10 : Abc Trek - Annapurna Base Camp To Sinuwa

Location: Sinuwa

Accommodation: Lodge, Lodge

Accommodation Name: Lodge

2130m, 7-hour walk

With half of our Annapurna Base Camp trek completed, it’s time to start heading back. After soaking in the stunning mountain views over breakfast, we begin our descent towards Dovan or Bamboo, passing through Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), Deurali, and Himalaya. Along the way, we’ll take breaks for tea, lunch, and maybe a few more epic mountain snapshots!

Day 11 : Abc Trek - Sinuwa To Landruk

Location: Landruk

Accommodation: Lodge

Accommodation Name: Lodge

1585m, 6-7-hour walk

From Sinuwa, we’ll make our way to Chhomrong before trekking down a steep trail to Jhinu Danda, where you can treat yourself to a relaxing dip in the hot springs – totally optional, but highly recommended! 😊 If you’d rather keep moving, we’ll continue, crossing the Kyumnu Khola on an epic suspension bridge high above the river. From there, we’ll hike through a gorgeous ravine valley, winding our way to the charming village of Landruk.

Day 12 : Abc Trek - Landruk To Australian Camp

Location: Australian Base Camp View Point

Accommodation: Camp

Accommodation Name: Angel's Lodge

2160m, 6-hour walk

From Landruk, we’ll cruise along a pleasant, easy trail to Tolka, then head upward through the forest toward Pitan Deurali. After that, we’ll trek along a scenic ridgeline with breathtaking views all the way to Pothana. But the adventure doesn’t stop there – just a half-hour more brings us to the magical Australian Camp, where we’ll settle in for the night at Angel’s Lodge. Get ready for an unforgettable stay!

Day 13 : Abc Trek - Australian Camp To Kandle

Location: Sarangkot

Accommodation: Hostel

Accommodation Name: Dragon Hotel Damside

1-hour walk

From Australian Camp, we’ll kick off the day with an epic sunrise over the entire Annapurna Range and Manaslu – a view well worth seeing! After soaking it all in, we’ll make our descent to Kande. From there, we’ll hop on a bus and journey through Kaski Danda and Sarangkot, eventually reaching Pokhara. Once there, we’ll spend the afternoon exploring this vibrant lakeside city and, as we’re sure you’ll be anticipating, a well-deserved rest!

  • Where does the trip start and finish?

This tour starts in and ends in Kathmandu. Throughout, all your local travel is included, excluding airport transfers.

  • When do the trips depart? Can I begin my trip on a non-listed date?

You can find all of our set departure dates on the page. You can join a trip at any point – if you need to discuss a situation like this, such as joining a tour late, email our team.

  • What is the accommodation used on this tour?

On this adventure tour, you’ll be based in hostels and guesthouses. All of the accommodation we use are clean, comfortable, and well-located. In them, you’ll have all bedding provided for you, so no need to bring anything extra!

  • What is the general demographic of travellers on this tour?

While we get a huge range of people on this tour, we tend to see that this tour is most popular with people in their mid-20s to late 30s.

  • Do the hostels have Wi-Fi? Will I be able to keep in touch with friends and family while in Nepal?

There is Wi-Fi in all the hostels whilst in Nepal. However, whilst trekking, we will be staying in local Nepalese tea houses which offer little to no WiFi signal. In some instances, you may be able to pay a small fee for access at certain times of day, but in most cases, power will need to be conserved for other means – such as lighting. In the Annapurna mountains, there is usually always signal for mobile phones. Therefore, you can look into using an eSim provider or purchase a SIM upon arrival as another option. Your Adventure Leader will carry a satellite phone for emergency situations to be connected at all times

  • Do I need to bring power adaptors?

Yes – these are available to buy in airports or various stores before you arrive. Make sure you get adaptors that will work in Nepal – accepted types are C, D and M.

  • What kind of restaurants will we go to?

Your Adventure Leader will always offer to take you for a group meal, where we go to a local restaurant, which we know is hygienic and has cheap and delicious food. If you are craving Western food, then there are lots of great options!

  • I’m a vegetarian/have allergies – will I be able to get the right food?

Yes! With so many food choices, We can meet the needs of individuals with special dietary needs or requests. Just tell your Adventure Leader and they can help you find something suitable. You will probably discover a new dish that you love! Nepal is really well suited to vegetarians.

  • What travel insurance do I need for Nepal?

We require all our customers to have backpackers travel insurance when coming on the trip. Due to the nature of the trip, it is mandatory that you purchase travel insurance that offers ‘Helicopter Evacuation’ cover. If you would like further assistance regarding which insurance to purchase, please reach out to our experts. Please bring details of your travel insurance along with you. In the event of an accident, we may need to contact your insurance company on your behalf, so we will need the insurance company’s name and phone number and your policy number.

  • Do I need any special vaccinations for Nepal?

You should consult your doctor regarding any vaccinations you might need.

  • I’m not very physically fit! Is the trip suitable for me?

On the Poonhill and ABC treks, you’ll be walking for up to 6 hours a day, so a moderate level of fitness is required for this trip. If you’re unsure about your fitness level or have any concerns, feel free to contact us, and one of our experts will be happy to provide further advice.

  • I have a medical condition – is this OK?

Generally yes, but please do inform us of your specific requirements at the point of booking.

  • Do I need a first aid kit?

All of our Adventure Leaders have a fully equipped first aid kit with them at all times, but of course there is no harm in bringing your own small one along. We also advise that you bring your own antihistamine, anti-diarrhoea, and painkillers if you think you’ll need them. These are available in all of the cities.

  • If something happens, will I be able to get necessary medical attention?

In cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, there are modern, well-equipped hospitals that we will arrange for you to visit in case of an emergency. However, during the Poonhill and ABC treks, the nearest hospitals may be up to a 2-day hike away from the main road, where a taxi can assist with further transport. Our Adventure Leaders are trained in first aid and will carry medicines for common ailments, such as stomach issues. There is also a basic medical post at Annapurna Base Camp for assistance. For more serious incidents, helicopter evacuation is available. Please note that not all travel insurance policies cover this unless you purchase a specific package. It is mandatory to have insurance that includes helicopter evacuation when joining the ABC trek with us.

  • Altitude Sickness

During both treks, particularly ABC, altitude sickness – caused by rapid exposure to low amounts of oxygen at high elevation – is a risk. Before starting, your Adventure Leader will explain the basic signs and symptoms of altitude sickness, which can include: • Headache (the most common symptom) • Nausea and vomiting • Loss of appetite • Fatigue, even when resting • Trouble sleeping • Dizziness or light-headedness It’s important that you familiarise yourself with these symptoms, monitor your health throughout the trek, and make it known to your guide if you feel unwell at any point. For more details on high altitude, you can refer to the ‘Travel at High Altitude’ handbook (link below). However, please note, this is a resource for information purposes only and is in no way intended to replace the advice of a trained medical professional. As such The Dragon Trip is unable to accept responsibility for any loss, injury or inconvenience sustained by any person, caused by errors and omissions, or as a result of the advice and information given here. Read the Travel at High Altitude here: https://www.medex.org.uk/the-medex-book/ If you have any concerns about trekking at high altitude, feel free to contact one of our experts.

  • Adventure Leader

You and your group will be accompanied by a local Adventure Leader throughout the trip. Besides the Adventure Leader, your ABC-trek will also be accompanied by porters carrying your main luggage. Great news for you – it means you only have to carry a small bag with your important belongings & water bottle for the trek itself! A guide of ABC guide and porter to traveller ratio is provided below: • 2 – 3 pax – 1 guide + 1 porter • 4 – 5 pax – 1 guide + 2 porters • 6 – 7 pax – 2 guides + 3 porters • 8 – 9 pax – 2 guides + 4 porters • 10 – 12 pax – 2 guides + 5 porters • 13 – 15 pax – 3 guides + 6 porters • 16 – 20 pax – 3 guides + 8 porters Any luggage that you don’t need during your ABC trek, can be stored in Pokhara.

  • How do I get money in Nepal?

There are ATMs in the cities and you can withdraw money in many, but not all, of the places that we visit. We advise that you notify your bank that you will be travelling before you depart. As a note, many banks and cards do charge a foreign transaction fee when withdrawing money while abroad. We recommend that, before departing on your ABC trek, make sure you have enough Nepalese currency to purchase meals and drinks during the trek – in the smaller denominations where possible. There are no ATM’s and it can be harder to change a NPR1000 note.

  • How much should I budget for food and drink on the Dragon Trip?

It really varies depending on your taste and budget. You can get a simple meal for £2-3. Generally, we take travellers to affordable restaurants and recommend budgeting £10-15 a day for food and drink.

  • How do I get my Visas?

These are available on arrival for the majority of nationalities including the UK, all of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many, many others.

  • Suitcase or backpack?

We would recommend bringing a large backpack rather than a suitcase.

  • What should I pack?

For your day pack during the trek: Before departing Pokhara for your trek, your Adventure Leader will assist you with packing your kitbag and can advise on what to bring and what can be left behind in Pokhara. For your comfort and convenience, we recommend keeping your trek bag light and compact by packing clothes made from lightweight materials and limiting yourself to just one or two changes. However, the weather in the Himalayas can be highly unpredictable, so it’s important to be prepared for all conditions, including rain, cold, and heat. A helpful tip for us to you: pack your gear in plastic bags to keep it dry, as dry clothes are crucial for your comfort. You can thank us later! Your day pack should be large enough to carry essentials for a day’s walk, such as a rain jacket, spare trousers, warm clothing, water bottles, camera equipment, toiletries, and other personal items. A hip/waist strap can provide extra comfort by shifting the weight from your back and shoulders to your legs! We recommend choosing a pack with a 30 to 40-liter capacity. You will only need to carry this day pack while trekking each day. Water bottles: We recommend coming prepped with 2 x 1 litre water bottles that you’ll be able to refill along the way. While trekking, boiled or safe drinking water is available to purchase in tea houses. If you’re feeling super prepared, you could also pack a water purification method. We’d recommend discussing options for this with your local pharmacy. Essential trekking equipment: • Hiking boots (ensure they’re broken in) • Gaiters + spikes (available for hire in Pokhara) • Waterproof jacket and trousers • Daily footwear (i.e. trainers, sandals, or boots) • Plenty of high quality hiking socks – you can never have enough! • T-Shirts (aim for synthetic material to absorb moisture quickly) • Thermals incl. top & bottom layers • Down jacket (available for hire in Pokhara if needed) • Warm mid layers (fleece/micro fibre) • Trekking trousers – lightweight, loose fitting, & durable • Warm hat & sun hat • Snood (ideal for winter departures) • Waterproof gloves • Head torch (trust us, it’ll to make your life easier during the evenings) • Tracksuit (or something comfy to lounge/sleep in during trek) • Shorts or skirt for summer • Sunglasses • Sun cream and lip balm – you’ll need it whilst in the mountains! • Light weight towel (we recommend microfibre) • Personal first aid kit (incl. blister plasters) • Biodegradable wet wipes/toilet paper • Hand sanitiser gel • High-energy trekking snacks e.g. dried frit, nuts, cereal bars

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Majority of our clients are solo travellers and our prices are based on sharing in dorm style rooms. We do offer single room upgrades for those who do not wish to share a room.

  • Can you guarantee same-sex dorm rooms?

We always strive to ensure the highest level of comfort and convenience for our valued clients during their travels with us. However, for our tours in Asia, we cannot guarantee same-sex dorm rooms in the hostels we use, particularly during high season, such as the cherry blossom season in Japan. Please rest assured that we do our utmost to accommodate our clients' preferences wherever possible. However, the availability of same-sex dorm rooms ultimately depends on the policies of the hostels we work with. In some cases, different genders may be allocated to the same room due to limited availability.

  • What happens if I need to change my holiday date once I’ve booked?

Please speak to our sales team as soon as possible to see how we can help.

  • Will the accommodation included meet local health and safety regulations?

All our accommodation is check regularly to make sure it's a safe and clean environment.

  • What Ethical Travel credentials does the tour company have?

We are not perfect but we aim to be, that is why year on year we aim to increase the proportion of local businesses we work with as well as reduce the average carbon footprint of all of our group tour adventures. We do this by measuring our performance and making small but positive changes to how we operate.

  • What documents will I receive before I travel?

You will receive a booking pack with all the pick up times, accommodation and activities included.

  • Who should I contact in the event of an emergency on tour?

Depending upon where you are travelling, the following emergency contact numbers are available for The Dragon Trip: China: +86 21 2206 4018 Japan: +81 50 1742 2696 South Korea (can only be used in Korea): 00308 491 0186 Singapore: +65 3158 0233 Southeast Asia, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka: +84 284 458 1410

  • Passport Details

For most destinations we will require the details to be submitted on our online form (the link for which will be provided post-booking and prior to your travel date). Please note that this needs to be complete & accurate to avoid any late update fees for accommodation and transport bookings. IMPORTANT NOTE: China tours is the only destination where we require an actual copy of your passport. We require these in order to book travel tickets for clients and passports are used during the check-in.

  • How long has the tour company been trading?

The Dragon Trip has been trading since March 2011

  • Can I join the tour once it has departed?

Yes, although you will have to make your own way to where the group is heading to out of your own expense.

  • Why do the tours have an age range?

While we strive to cater to a diverse range of travellers, it is important to consider whether the tour aligns with your expectations and preferences. We want your travel experience to be enjoyable and fulfilling, and we believe that selecting a tour that matches your age group and interests is crucial in achieving that. Our tours are very active and jam-packed, including early starts and getting on and off local transportation. There will be a lot of walking, and activities such as cycling. You could be walking up to 20,000 steps per day!

  • Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

Our tours are aimed at fun, out-going and open minded individuals. We typically get people aged between 18 to 55 travelling on our trips. Feel free to contact us to see the ages of the people who are booked already. Some of our trips have an upper age limit because of the pace of the tour, style of accommodation and the average age of the group - please do not be offended if we check your age and perhaps recommend a different itinerary. Our premium trips are suitable for most.

Great amount of places visited and good pace of travel.

25-Jul-2023

Great amount of places visited and good pace of travel. Saw each place in good detail with enough time, although wanted longer in Pokhara. Plenty of activities and sightseeing with great accommodation that made the trip very comfortable. Very happy with the hotels and hostels, much nicer than expected. Overall loved the trip, wish it was slightly longer as enjoyed it so much.

What a wonderful tour around Nepal.

30-May-2023

What a wonderful tour around Nepal. Our guides on the tour were great. Both Shovan & Kumar were both fantastic, very friendly, knowledgable and personal. The activities included on the tour were great and the extras available were so much fun. The route we took around Nepal worked well so we didn't have to spend excess time in the bus. Our bus driver was also great!

Very good.

18-Jul-2023

Very good with virtually all activities included and the accommodation was very nice. A comprehensive tour of the main sights of Nepal as an introduction for a first time visitor, but would love to spend longer, especially in Pokhara!

The trip is very well planned and you really get to see so much of Nepal even in a short amount of time.

10-Jun-2023

The trip is very well planned and you really get to see so much of Nepal even in a short amount of time. Shovan and Kumar were the best guides, so helpful and so informative. It’s very well balanced between doing cultural things such as visiting the beautiful temples and learning about the history in Nepal and also doing the other activities like the trek and national park. I would definitely recommend this trip and will hopefully come back to Nepal soon!
