What You Carry

In your daypack you will need to carry extra warm clothing (depending on the altitude, location and weather), a rainjacket, water bottle, camera gear, valuables and personal items such as sunscreen, lip-eze etc. Porters and mules carry all group gear and your trek pack.

Grading

On a moderate trek physical activity will generally not exceed eight hours in a day, and altitudes generally not exceeding 5,500 metres. On a moderate adventure the physical activity is sustained and travelers should be comfortable with occasional rough terrain. At any stage of a moderate trek you can expect long steep climbs and descents and a wide range of weather conditions. An example of an average day on moderate trek could include several ascents and descents of 500 metres or more, level ground is rare in the mountains.
To prepare for a moderate trek you should begin training at least four to five months before your departure. As a guideline, an hour of aerobic exercise three to four times per week would be considered a minimum requirement. The best preparation is bushwalking involving relatively steep ascents and descents. If you can manage a couple of valley floor to ridgeline ascents per bushwalk, albeit with stops along the way, you will cope with a moderately graded trek. Speed is not important, stamina, confidence and continuity are.

Mode of Transport

Experience scenic flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Jomsom, complemented by private transportation and trekking through the stunning landscapes of Mustang, ensuring a seamless and adventurous journey.

  • Can you advise which vaccinations are recommended?

While our pre-departure kit provides information on vaccinations, we suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

He led us places that few others get to and was always patient in his explanations of the people, the culture and the land. As always the World Ex crew took great care of us. They fed us amazing food and looked after our needs. The entire crew including the horses were great to travel with. If you are looking for a remote part of Nepal with very few tourists, amazing scenes and some good trekking thrown in you should consider this trip. ...more ...less

The tour of Mustang was excellent with a fantastic Sirdar, Samde and the great team, support crew. The itinerary could not be followed totally because of a big rain event (17 hours continuous) which destroyed roads and caused flooding. It was great that the crew kept as happy as they did despite at times not knowing how their families were in the Kathamndu Valley. The walks were an amazing mix of painted, pastel landscapes, with distant views of the snowy Himalaya peaks, monasteries and chortens slowly dissolving back into the landscape. There were some very remote camp sites that very few tourists will ever see and walks up to near the Tibetan border where you could see Chinese border tower. One of the great attractions was to see the local people herding sheep and goats, threshing grain, cutting Buckwheat and foraging for winter animal feed before the first snows. The Villages and monasteries of Kagbeni, Chusang and Lo Mantang were exceptional. New road building to the Chinese border have changed the economy of the region and especially young people are drifting away to the cities and abroad. Travellers need to catch this former kingdom while they can! ...more ...less

This was the trip of a lifetime. Because I 'took to walking' so late in life and found it to be rejuvenating and calming that took me to this remarkable part of the world. If only it could stay as it is! It'd be lovely to keep it as 'a secret'. Every day since my return I remember more and feel more clearly the positive impact of this adventure on me. I don't know how you could describe in a marketing sense what you gain from participating in such a sojourn, but it was much more than a destination. Much more than a tick box. It was remarkable. It was very well put together by World Ex. If you can, DO IT. ...more ...less
