Tour Overview

Manaslu (8167m) is the 7th highest mountain in the world and it is only in recent years that trekkers have begun to explore this rugged area. Trekking around Manaslu offers awesome mountain views, remote Buddhist villages close to the Tibetan border and cultural and geographic diversity that rivals any other trek in the Himalaya. The trek commences amidst the terraced fields and sub-tropical forests of the foothills. Climbing north, the landscape gradually transforms into the arid, high altitude landscapes associated with Tibetan culture. Traversing to the north of Manaslu, with time to visit the Base Camp that is used by expeditions, is a highlight of this trek. Beyond Manaslu, the climb continues until we reach the majestic Larkya La, which affords outstanding views in every direction of the Himalaya. After crossing the pass, we complete this rewarding circuit of Manaslu in the bustling villages of the Annapurna region. ...more ...less

Manaslu Circuit & Base Camp Trek

25 Apr 2024

Another great trek from World Expeditions. The trip took us up through diverse and fascinating changes in scenery and cultural backgrounds. Highlights were: the “small change in itinerary” to do a side trip up to Pung Gyen Gompa (with a glacial valley surrounded by giant peaks all to ourselves for the night); a hard day over Larke La but spectacularly views to ease the pain; and the many friendly interactions with the locals giving insight into lives that are very different to mine. Samde ably led the trek and shared his great passion for people and environment of Nepal. Many thanks to guides Ram, Min and Sabin for looking after us, Sirdar Nima for keeping everything running smoothly, Bhaktar and the cook boys for performing miracles daily and the porters for doing difficult job with smiles on their faces. I can’t wait to come back. ...more ...less

Everything from start to finish was completely flawless! Our whole team were all incredibly friendly and always happy to answer any questions we had. They also always made us all feel safe and comfortable! The tents were so nice and spacious with a very cosy sleeping bag! The food was always divine and featured some seriously impressive dishes such as cake or pizza! (I don’t know how this is possible at altitude) Lastly our lead guide Sam-de was a true and utter legend! He was always very professional and respectful with the team and with us always so professional and smiling all the way! He was great at allowing us the opportunity to interact with locals when we passed through villages. He was also great at telling us about the history and fun facts of the area and had a very keen eye for all the wildlife! Overall I would not change a single thing about this trip! Every day was filled with excitement, learning and beauty. ...more ...less

I loved the whole trip, from the villages, Tibetan culture and scenery, the challenge of crossing Larkya Pass (5160m), all making this an excellent trek. The team looking after us did a fantastic job - we all stayed in good health - thanks so much to our experienced team - Juddha Rai, Rajan Rai, Lakpa, Pasang and all the rest of the assistants and porters. The Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu was also a great start and end point. Well done! ...more ...less

26 Apr 2019

The Manaslu circuit trip was an unforgettable experience. Our guides and staff were highly competent, efficient, friendly and helpful. The camp ran pretty much like clockwork and we were very well looked after. The standard of food hygiene was very high. The scenery is stunning throughout and varies greatly during the trip, as does the temperature. Would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to get outside their comfort zone and challenge themselves a little. The walking is not hard but the altitude can take a toll. The views make up for everything. ...more ...less

Brilliant trek. Highly recommended. Our guide, Samde Sherpa was excellent - very knowledgeable, calm and inspired a great deal of confidence. Food was excellent. Highlight was camping at Punyeng Gompa - off itinerary but at our guide’s recommendation. Scenery was breathtaking. Our guide was able to engage us with local people along the way. Some of the highlights of our trek was being able to engage with the local people, all thanks to Samde, our guide. Our group of 8 watched a lady weaving, met a shepherd who proudly showed us his woollen coat, made by his wife and visiting a monastery where the nuns (some in their eighties) were sitting together having tsampa. I think it is these people that make a trek so memorable. Samde likes photography, so we had lots of opportunities to stop and look at bharals, marmots and birds of prey. Our campsite Pung Gyen Gompa, chosen by Samde, was such a beautiful area and our group of 8 had the place to ourselves. We watched the sunrise from the foot of Manaslu, it was spectacular. There is so much more to see and do, but you will have to see it for yourself. As always, the crew looked after us so well and they work very hard. THEY ARE AMAZING! ...more ...less

Awesome experience. Not really wilderness camping. Suggest this trek becomes a tea house trek

Samde Sherpa was the best guide anyone could wish for. It was difficult managing 16 people ( too many in my opinion) camping. With the new road and more tea houses being built, the time of the camping trip has ended.

An amazing experience thanks to the fantastic team of cooks, porters and sherpas. Samde and his team had a huge task on their hands. The group was far too big and many of the camping spots were very cramped in the back of a tea house with limited "facilities" -no space for a toilet tent.Once we were constrained to dig the loo in the veggie patch of a tea house! The final camp was basically a construction site.On the whole the camping sites were very disappointing-no fault of the crew who did a great job in very difficult circumstances.Conditions have changed considerably over a few years and as stated the group was far too big.Despite that the kitchen team managed to work miracles without fail and all the staff were were brilliant. The Manaslu circuit is spectacular without doubt..but I think the camping element needs to be reconsidered. ...more ...less
