Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrival In Vilde
Location: Asturias
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Vilde
Arrival in Asturias on your own by car or bus (see the Getting There section for more details), and settle at your charming rural accommodation in Vilde, a small family-run hotel on a working farm with a garden.
Day 2 : A Choice Of Circular Cycling Routes From Vilde 14-46 Km
Location: Asturias
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Vilde
Meals Included: Breakfast
After a hearty breakfast, you depart on a cycling route through the green hills on the border between Asturias and Cantabria. You can choose between two routes: a longer one (41 km spread out over a few short but steep sections), or a short ride of 14 km to the beach at Pechón or to Cueva Pindal, with its prehistoric cave paintings. You can also add a short walking route through Mediterranean woodlands to reach the Santa Tina chapel’s ruins on the Camino de Santiago pilgrims’ trail.
Day 3 : Canoeing On The Deva River 14 Km
Location: Unquera
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Vilde
Today you cycle just 4 km, getting to the canoe rental shop in Unquera. Transfer up-river to Panes, the starting point for your canoeing excursion. Armed with wetsuits, paddles and a packed lunch, you spend 2-3 hours paddling down the pretty Deva River. Small beaches on the riverbanks provide a place to stop for a swim along the route. In the afternoon, optional walk from Vilde to Colombres, to visit the Casa de Indianos, a beautiful colonial-style building which houses an interesting emigration museum.
Day 4 : Cycling From Vilde To Poo De Llanes
Location: Poo de Llanes
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Poo de Llanes
You cycle via quiet country lanes, into Valle Oscuro (“Dark Valley”), an ominous name for a beautiful place with traditional family farms and tiny villages at the foot of the Sierra del Cuera coastal range. Stop for a short rest at an authentic local bar. You can choose to cycle up to 25 km (with a total ascent of 325 m, spread out over 3 small hills). By the afternoon you’re back at the coast for a short ride along blowholes in the cliffs or a protected otter habitat on the tiny bay of Andrín. From Puertas de Vidiago you only have to cycle the last 7 km to reach the next accommodation, located in Poo de Llanes, only 700 m away from a beautiful beach.
Day 5 : Circular Cycling Route From Poo De Llanes
Location: Llanes
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Poo de Llanes
Your hotel in Poo de Llanes is just 2 km from the lovely fishing village of Llanes, with its Medieval centre, Gothic church, two beaches, lots of shops and restaurants, and colourfully-painted wave break on the harbour. If you’re lucky, there will be some local celebration going on nearby. The county of Llanes has a busy calendar of celebrations, with traditional processions and local folklore. You can also cycle to the village of Porrúa, with its ethnographic museum, or the beach at Póo de Llanes.
Day 6 : Cycling From Poo To Nueva De Llanes
Location: Asturias
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Nueva de Llanes
Today you do another splendid, and incredibly varied cycling route with two different options. First, you cycle to Posada de Llanes. From there you can either follow the coast (easier route) or turn inland and do a circuit up into the Sierra, enjoying stunning views. Both routes follow mainly country roads through picturesque scenery and offer a glimpse of rural life in Asturias. You can also stop along the way for a dip in the sea.
Day 7 : A Day At The Beach Or Cycle Along The Camino Del Norte
Location: Ribadesella
Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Nueva de Llanes
Just 2.5 km from Nueva, you have the pretty beach called Cuevas del Mar, perfect for swimming and playing in the sand. You can also choose a circular cycling route to the west towards Ribadesella, following the pilgrim´s trail “Camino del Norte”. In Ribadesella, you can swim, surf, canoe or explore fossilized dinosaur tracks on the beach. The Cave Museum of Tito Bustillo offers a replica of cave paintings, some 25 000 years old.
