On our tours, there’s plenty of freedom for you to enjoy as much as you want from the local food scene, meaning you can make the decisions that suit you at mealtimes. We believe that food is an important part of a country’s culture, so we’d always recommend eating as widely as you can while you’re away. In Taiwan, our adventure tour’s welcome dinner will take part during a night market food tour, where your Adventure Leader will point out all the amazing dishes you can try. For our farewell dinner, we’ll try famous ‘din tai fung’ soup noodles.

Yes, but we’ll always ask you to make us aware of these in advance. Our Adventure Leader will help you to cater to your needs, but you’ll also have plenty of freedom on the trip to try other things. We’d also recommend downloading apps like HappyCow, which will help you find local establishments that cater to any dietary requirements.

We require all our customers to have backpackers travel insurance when coming on the trip. We recommend purchasing a travel insurance that offers ‘Bad Weather or Natural Disaster Coverage’. Please bring details of your travel insurance along with you. In the event of an accident, we may need to contact your insurance company on your behalf, so we will need the insurance company’s name and phone number and your policy number. When it comes to who to choose, we’re big fans of World Nomads as a travel insurance provider.

The Dragon Trip aims to enter no areas with tropical diseases. However, as with any backpacking trip, we urge you to seek advice from a travel nurse before departing your home country. All travellers should be up to date with a full course of vaccination and boosters recommended by their governments. We recommend you have Hepatitis A, B, Tetanus, Japanese Encephalitis, and MMR.

At its heart, the Dragon Trip is an adventure tour of Taiwan, but you can make your Dragon Trip as physically active (or inactive) as you want. If there is an activity you’d like to give a miss, you could ask your Adventure Leader for a more relaxing activity! We always ask our travellers to, as a baseline, expect a lot of walking.

All of our Adventure Leaders have a fully equipped first aid kit with them at all times, but of course, there is no harm in bringing your own small one along. We also advise that you bring your own antihistamines, anti-diarrhoea medications, and painkillers if you think you’ll need them. These are available in all of the cities.

Yes, our Adventure Leaders will take you to places with effective medical equipment. In major cities, you’ll find good quality hospitals.

You can exchange Taiwan Dollars (TWD) at ATMs and bank counters in Taiwan’s airports - just make sure that your debit card has a foreign currency account and is enabled for foreign withdrawals. Bringing a few internationally accepted credit cards is also recommended, as they are widely usable in Taiwan.

Here are some average prices for meals and drinks which should give you a rough idea of how expensive food and drink is in Taiwan: - Local breakfast: USD 4–6.5 - Taiwanese meal box: USD 5 - Small to medium restaurants (no special decor): USD 5.5–12 - Larger restaurants (with decor): USD 10–25 - Chain restaurants: USD 25–67 - Night market stalls: USD 3.5–5 - Bar cocktails: USD 12–20 In the major metropolitan areas (Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung), it’s advisable to budget an additional USD 5–7 for the above items – city prices, after all!

There is a certain amount of tipping culture in Taiwan. Here are some suggestions: - For restaurants, a service fee is usually included in the bill, so no extra tip is needed. - For taxis and general vendors, tipping is not expected. - For service-oriented and labor-intensive roles, such as: - Tour guides: A suggested tip of USD 5 per day (about TWD 150). - Housekeepers: A recommended tip of USD 3.5 per bed/day (about TWD 100).

Majority of our clients are solo travellers and our prices are based on sharing in dorm style rooms. We do offer single room upgrades for those who do not wish to share a room.

We always strive to ensure the highest level of comfort and convenience for our valued clients during their travels with us. However, for our tours in Asia, we cannot guarantee same-sex dorm rooms in the hostels we use, particularly during high season, such as the cherry blossom season in Japan. Please rest assured that we do our utmost to accommodate our clients' preferences wherever possible. However, the availability of same-sex dorm rooms ultimately depends on the policies of the hostels we work with. In some cases, different genders may be allocated to the same room due to limited availability.

For most destinations we will require the details to be submitted on our online form (the link for which will be provided post-booking and prior to your travel date). Please note that this needs to be complete & accurate to avoid any late update fees for accommodation and transport bookings. IMPORTANT NOTE: China tours is the only destination where we require an actual copy of your passport. We require these in order to book travel tickets for clients and passports are used during the check-in.

While we strive to cater to a diverse range of travellers, it is important to consider whether the tour aligns with your expectations and preferences. We want your travel experience to be enjoyable and fulfilling, and we believe that selecting a tour that matches your age group and interests is crucial in achieving that. Our tours are very active and jam-packed, including early starts and getting on and off local transportation. There will be a lot of walking, and activities such as cycling. You could be walking up to 20,000 steps per day!

Our tours are aimed at fun, out-going and open minded individuals. We typically get people aged between 18 to 55 travelling on our trips. Feel free to contact us to see the ages of the people who are booked already. Some of our trips have an upper age limit because of the pace of the tour, style of accommodation and the average age of the group - please do not be offended if we check your age and perhaps recommend a different itinerary. Our premium trips are suitable for most.
