Tour Overview

The Upper Dolpo lies in the remote northwest of Nepal, between the Tibetan Plateau and the Dhaulagiri Himalayas ranges. The Upper Dolpo trek takes in, as the name suggests, the upper part of the Dolpo region, which is more remote and rarely explored. The Dolpo trek only opened to visitors at the end of the 1980s, This region is still considered a restricted area and requires a special permit (which need to pay USD 500 per person). Phoksundo Lake; Shey Gompa; Bon Po practitioners; Buddhist monasteries; stunning views of Dhaulagiri range; Crystal Himalayas; unique Tibetan cultures; the magnificent and rare snow leopard – all of these may sound familiar. And yes, they are, made so through Peter Matthiessen’s book “The Snow Leopard” and Eric Valli’s film of Dolpo life, ‘Himalaya’. During Dolpo trek is, in general, a dry, bare place, it is laced with fast flowing rivers, roaring waterfalls, deep river gorges, lush meadows, and valleys of tilled fields. Hidden villages with interesting cultures, including the Bon Po religion, and of course the beautiful icy waters of Phoksundo Lake are other attractions in the Dolpo region. As part of Dolpo falls within the Shey Phoksundo National Park, the wildlife, such as the snow leopard, rare Mountain blue sheep, goral, Thar, Himalayan black bear, many more animals is protected. This 25 days trek is not for the faint-hearted as paths are difficult, high, steep, shaky, and sometimes barely there. Long trekking days at high elevation are the norm with several high Himalayan passes to cross, but for those with the stamina, good physical fitness level, and sheer willpower, Upper Dolpo is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime trip. If you want to preview what lies ahead on your trip to Dolpo, then Sherpa Expedition and Trekking recommend you take a peek at these movies. Upper Dolpo was the location for the Oscar-nominated movies "The Himalaya" and “The Caravan” and for the German documentary Dolpo Tulku. It wasn’t until 1989 that the southern part of Dolpo eventually opened up to trekkers. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking team guarantee this trek will leave you mesmerized.

I would like to especially thanks to Mr Ram our brilliant guide and Sherpa Expedition and Trekking team, without them the trek would not have been the same. Best Dolpo Terkking

18-Oct-2019

"I have recently come all the way back from the Upper Dolpo Trek in Northwestern Nepal. Six passes, remote, excellent landscape. Met some wonderful Nepalese individuals, glad persevering in this unforgiving condition they live. I was very much taken care of by my guide. Extraordinary sans gluten suppers by my cook and kitchen staff and Sherpa consistently served it with a grin. Our rigging was conveyed by donkeys and very much took care of by control. I rate it as a fantastic excursion particularly in case you're searching for a progressively remote and intriguing trek."

Wonderful Dolpo Trip!

07-Nov-2019

During the booking procedure, every one of my messages were addressed promptly, obligingly, and with all the information I required. When I touched base in Kathmandu, I at that point met Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Team, and they were useful kept on being my primary contact. The guide was awesome! He went well beyond to deal with each little detail of my trek, and furthermore helped me with things he wouldn't have needed to. I had a sense of security and secure on the Mustang trek realizing that everything about been dealt with. Upper Dolpo trekking is a bold trekking in the remote scene of western Nepal. Strolling along the antiquated salt exchanging course, we go over beautiful Shey-Phoksundo lake, different high passes and glorious mountains. The trek begins from Jhupal and pushes forward through the lavish woodland coming to Phoksundo lake. Going through our days in the region of flawless lakes, we climb through Nagdala La to reach Shey Gompa. We at that point goes through Sela La and Jyanta La to achieve the settlement in lower Dolpo. I had an astounding aide and the best vehicles. We needed to change vehicles on different occasions on account of the streets, and some way or another there was constantly one hanging tight for us - a a great feat of logistics, considering lack of cell phone coverage and remoteness! ! Sherpa Expedition and Trekking is absolutely proficient, 100% honest and reliable, and I exceedingly suggest them for any movement you need to do - from a one day excursion to expanded travel in the Himalayas. Highly
