Tour Overview
The Makalu Base Camp trek starting from Tumlingtar in the mid-eastern Makalu region. Makalu Base Camp Trek is high altitude trek, which takes in lower landscapes of lush rhododendron forests, picturesque Gurung villages, beautiful river valleys, and the Makalu Barun National Park. In high elevation, there are breathtaking panoramas views of the over 8000m mountains, high altitude lakes, and passes to cross to reach the barn, rocky base camp. It is a long, varied, and quite a strenuous trek. This trek is suitable for those who are keen trekkers and nature enthusiasts and who really would rather be in tranquil, pristine nature than follow the crowds. The Base Camp is situated at 5100 meters the trek through ever-increasing altitude is the best way to slowly walk o avoid altitude sickness. From Makalu Base Camp the Barun Glacier, the south face of Mt. Makalu (8,481m), and complete stunning views of Everest and Lhotse is seen. Time is given to visitors to explore the lakes and glaciers around Makalu base camp before heading back from this icy, rocky land to green forests and valleys. After trek back our journey we cross the Tutu La Pass (4,125m) which is now known by the name of Shipton’s Pass. The Pass is named after the renowned mountaineer Eric Shipton who was involved with most expeditions to Mount Everest in the 1930s and the team that mapped out the route now-famous over the Khumbu Glacier. Makalu Barun National Park is home to 3,000 species of flowering plants, 440 species of birds and 75 species of mammals include the snow leopard, red panda, musk dear, Barking deer, wild boar, wild yak, and the Himalayan Thar. With the possibility of spotting wildlife at a lower elevation, green pastures and fields, villages, and forests, combined with snow-capped high Himalaya peaks, glaciers and rocky paths, It is also ideal photography territory! The Sherpa Team has been established for more than 42 years and has an excellent reputation. Our goal is to make it better!
