Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City

Location: Ho Chi Minh City

Day 4: Cu Chi Tunnels, Phmon Penh

Location: Cu Chi Tunnels, Phmon Penh

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Ho Chi Minh City - Phnom Penh. This morning we visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels used by the Viet-Cong in their struggle to keep control of the region during the 1960’s. As we walk the bush trails you’ll see trapdoors, booby traps, living areas, weapon factories and kitchens. We can also safely crawl sections of the tunnels, that have been widened for the tourists and fire weapons of the era (including the M16‘s and AK47) on the firing range.

After crossing the Cambodian border we drive to the capital of Phnom Penh. Once deemed the ‘Pearl of Asia’, Phnom Penh offers a bustling mix of Asia’s past and present, a city quickly taking its place amongst the trendy capitals of the region.

Day 5: Phnom Penh

Location: Phnom Penh

Today we’ll enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of Phnom Penh starting at the National Museum of Fine Arts, a graceful terracotta building of traditional design housing the world’s finest collection of Khmer sculpture. We continue with the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, famed for its lavish decorations – the floors are paved with silver tiles and statues of Buddha are encrusted with thousands of diamonds.

We later come face to face with the horrors of the Pol Pot regime as we visit Toul Sleng (Security Prison - S21), a school that was gruesomely transformed into a torture chamber under the Khmer Rouge, and visit the Killing Fields where over 10,000 people were executed.

This afternoon we see the mother of all temples – Angkor Wat. This breathtaking monument of man’s devotion to his gods is believed to be the largest religious building in the world and contains thousands of wall carvings and extensive bas-reliefs. There are plenty of wonderful photo opportunities at this iconic site. This evening is free for you to wander into town and perhaps sample Siem Reap's lively nightlife. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants in the compact city centre.

Day 7: Angkor Thom & Ngo Circus Project

Location: Angkor Thom & NGO circus project

Meals Included: Breakfast

Early this morning opt to see Angkor Wat bathed in the spectacular golden light of sunrise. Later we head out to Banteay Srei temple, considered by many to be the art gallery of Angkor with some of the finest stone carvings in the world. Cut from stone of a pinkish hue, the Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva and contains lavishly decorated libraries and stunning reliefs of divinities. Enroute to Banteay Srei stops will be made at an exotic butterfly sanctuary and the a village of Preak Dak where we support a community tree planting initiative.

Our temple tour continues with a visit to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. This monumental fortified city is encircled by a 100m wide moat and is famed for the huge statue heads that glare down from every angle. In Angkor Thom we will see the fabulous Bayon Temple, Baphuon, the royal enclosure, and the Terraces of the Elephants and the Leper King. Last but not least is atmospheric Tra Prohm Temple where vast muscular tree roots envelop the crumbling towers and walls whilst the trees’ foliage dapples the temple in shade.

Saigon to Siem Reap - 9 days

Packed full of exciting stuff with just enough down-time to recover each day. I try to pick holidays that I can learn from. This tour showed us the true horrors of the Vietnam war and Khmer Rouge regime, but still I managed to fall in love with both countries and their people. Amazing histories, great food, wonderful guides and incredible value (as always with On The Go!). I'll be back to book another tour again, soon.

This was my first time on a tour in my life so I was quite apprehensive. On The Go Tours proved to be 10 out of 10 in every category. The 1 guide we had in Vietnam and 2 in Cambodia were excellent. I recommend On the Go Travel and plan on using them again.

The whole tour and all three guides excellent. All our group got on extremely well. Shame the Northern Hotel in Saigon did not have a pool but that is a small point. Many thanks for a great time!

Absolutely without any word of lie 100% fantastic. We weren't initally looking at a tour type holiday, then we perused a view booklets at the travel agency. On The Go Tours caught our eye for accommodating what we intended to do, places we intended to go and in the time frame that we had available to us. From start to finish it was beyond our expectations. The group had a wonderful dynamic, the hotels were excellent the attractions fantastic, the transport on time everytime. The food was just the right balance of experiencing local cuisine and accommodating our western tastes. The guides Very informative and able too answer any questions. Very accommodating with assisting talking to the locals and special food requests. Able to recommend otherwise uknown side attractions such as where to eat in our free time. Each was a wonderful world of knowledge and friendliness. in fact they must have the paitence of saints taking us around and asking so many questions. Neither of them faulted at any stage, just wonderful. I would highly recommend travelling with your company again, and if this trip was anything to go by then i'm sure other destinations will be in our sights in the very near future. Ps i actually felt spoilt, in a good way, we were treated very naturally and never felt uncomfortable at any stage. Great, great, great.

We all found Ken and Nip very informative of their respective countries with both guides having a good command of English. Information and instructions were clear and understandable and trip activity well organised. Savonne was the most experienced of the three but it appears English is not his second language. This lack of ability caused some problems for a number of the customers as it was difficult for him to articulate as well as we expected or hoped for. However he was very nice and friendly and tried his best but I believe someone with a better command of English is required for a tour group such as ours who were all Anglo Saxon who had English as their first language. The food and accommodation was to a good standard at all the hotels which were conveniently situated in each city. Personally I did not like being in such a large and busy hotel such as the Angkor Paradise Hotel in Siem Reap or the Ninh Kieu 2 in Cantho City which were pretty busy with noisy Chinese and Indian groups. The only really negative part of the tour was the boat ride to the floating village (waste of time) and the bullock cart ride which was also pretty useless. All the coach/bus drivers were excellent especially those in Vietnam and the first part of Cambodia.

We joined the tour in Hanoi then went onto the Micon Delta. Which was probably the worst part of the trip. Loved Cambodia and the people. Guides were great and loved their countries.
