Day 1: Lisbon

Location: Lisbon

Lisbon - Obidos - Coimbra - Aveiro - Porto. As we start our journey in Lisbon, greet our guide and fellow travelers with a 'bom dia.' The adventure kicks off with a visit to Óbidos, a charming walled town just a short distance away. Explore interesting sights such as the sturdy walls of the Moorish Castle, cobbled shopping lanes, and enjoy a unique experience of sipping Ginjinha d'Óbidos, a sweet liqueur served in a chocolate cup.

Continuing north, we'll reach Coimbra, a former capital of Portugal and home to one of the world's oldest universities, established in the 13th century. Take the opportunity to explore this magnificent institution before treating ourselves to local cuisine for lunch.

The journey then leads to Aveiro, a town resembling a little Venice with picturesque canals and art-nouveau architecture.

Our final destination is Porto, where we'll be staying for the next two nights. Despite a day filled with exploration, consider taking a leisurely walk to a sunset spot in this multi-tiered town.

Please note: Check-in closes at 08:15 on day 1 (tour departs at 08:30) - Lisbon Drop Off, Hotel Zenit, Lisbon.

Day 2: Porto

Location: Porto

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today presents a choice: either take it easy and explore the charming city of Porto at your own pace, with an optional Douro River cruise and wine tasting. Alternatively, join our optional mini-coach tour of the Douro Valley. Both options offer an enjoyable experience.

Opting for the half-day excursion means a journey to Pinhão by coach, where you can embark on a river cruise aboard a traditional rabelo boat. In this quaint town celebrated for its port production, relish the delightful local wine and soak in the breathtaking views. En route back to Porto, we'll pause at Mesão Frio viewpoint, providing stunning panoramas of the Douro River and its surroundings.

The remainder of the day is yours to delve further into the city's offerings, savoring its wines and cuisine at your leisure. For enthusiasts of live music, don't miss the opportunity to catch a performance of Fado, Portugal’s soul-stirring traditional music.

Day 3: Santiago De Compostela

Location: Santiago de Compostela

Meals Included: Breakfast

Porto - Braga - Guimaraes - Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Departing from Porto, we head north to Braga to explore the esteemed Bom Jesus Sanctuary, a site of religious, cultural, and architectural significance. This UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019, situated at the base of Mount Espinho, boasts an elaborate Baroque staircase adorned with granite fountains and statues. At the summit, a neoclassical church offers breathtaking views of the city. You can reach the top by purchasing a ticket for the special elevator or challenging yourself with the nearly-600 steps on foot.

Next on the itinerary is Guimarães, often hailed as the 'birthplace of Portugal.' The historical center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, providing an opportunity to explore the city and enjoy a leisurely lunch. For a deeper insight into the life of the Braganza Dukes during the 15th and 16th centuries, consider a visit to the Palace of Braganza.

The adventure then crosses the border into Spain, with Santiago de Compostela as the destination. Known as a globally renowned pilgrimage site, you'll spend two nights in this historic city.

Day 4: Santiago De Compostela

Location: Santiago de Compostela

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today, you have the option to explore Santiago de Compostela at your leisure or join us on an exciting optional adventure. Opting for our trip, we'll start by driving along the Costa da Morte, also known as 'the Coast of Death.' Despite its ominous name, it once gained notoriety for shipwrecks. Our first stop is the charming town of Noia, followed by a coffee break in Muros.

We'll then visit Playa de Carnota, Galicia's largest beach, for a photo opportunity. Next, we'll venture to the Ézaro waterfall, offering a short walk and a unique sight of the river cascading directly into the sea. Take time to admire the lighthouse and gaze out at the wild Atlantic Ocean. Our next stop is the picturesque town of Muxía, known for its historic harbor. It's a perfect opportunity to relish the region's famous fresh seafood and observe the departure of ships. Upon returning to Santiago de Compostela, you'll have the evening to indulge in Galician specialties or marvel at the renowned cathedral, standing above the remains of St. James, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ.

This extraordinary landscape showcases peculiar red pinnacles and mountain holes, creating an otherworldly ambiance. Formed by the Romans during their quest for gold through earth excavation, these formations invite exploration. Enjoy our lunch in this remarkable setting before heading to Salamanca for an overnight stay.

On our way, we'll make a stop for lunch and provide everyone with some free time to explore the city of Ávila. Following this, we'll visit El Escorial, the impressive residence of the Spanish Royals and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We have a full day ahead to explore the vibrant city of Madrid, and the options are plenty for making the most of it. Madrid beckons with its diverse tapas bars, renowned artwork, and stunning architecture—a city that truly knows how to savor life.

For getting around, you can choose between Madrid's excellent public transportation system or hopping on a sightseeing bus that lets you explore at your own pace. Begin your exploration in the oldest part of Madrid, where the opulent Royal Palace awaits. With an impressive 3,418 rooms adorned with masterpieces from world-renowned artists, it's a grand spectacle. Take a leisurely walk through the city's magnificent plazas, such as Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, both lined with beautiful arcades.

Recharge and refuel at one of the city's numerous restaurants before embarking on an exciting afternoon of exploration. Art enthusiasts will find joy in the Prado Museum, home to an impressive collection of Spanish, Italian, and Flemish masterpieces. Nature lovers can escape to the lush El Retiro Park, offering a serene oasis in the heart of the city, with the option to rent a boat for a leisurely row on the park's lake.

As evening approaches, head to the lively La Latina district, renowned for its tapas, mojitos, and charming terraces. However, be mindful not to get too carried away by the city's energy, as tomorrow marks the next leg of our tour.

Consider optional activities, such as purchasing a ticket for a hop-on-hop-off sightseeing bus for convenient exploration of the city's many attractions.

Following our visit, we'll traverse rolling hills adorned with olive trees, their striking silvery-grey-green leaves signaling our entry into the province of Jaén, famed for its olive oil production.

Continuing our journey, we'll head south to the ruins of Fortaleza de la Mota, a fortress perched atop a hill. By early evening, we'll arrive in Granada, where we'll be based for the next two nights.

In the afternoon, venture into the intriguing Barrio de las Cuevas of Gaudix, also known as the neighborhood of house caves. Immerse ourselves in the history and evolution of this complex maze of homes by visiting the Gaudix Cave Dwellings Interpretation Centre, housed inside several original cave dwellings. Gain insights into the unique lifestyle of the inhabitants and delve into the rich heritage of this fascinating neighborhood.

Before returning to Granada, seize a moment to capture the picturesque Sierra Nevada mountains with a photo stop. Once back in Granada, make the most of our evening by exploring the city's tapas restaurants and savoring its culinary delights.

Recently returned from Greece, a 5 day tour with OTG. Unfortunately, I had a negative experience on day 2 where I needed local support to get me out of a tricky situation. Thank you to Alexandra Z from Hetco Tours in Athens for helping me continue on with the trip, to the Hotel Zafolia staffing team and to Danielle and team here in the UK for supporting me with the aftermath. Your kindness will not be forgotten and I will pay it forward. I've now booked 3 trips with yourselves and will continue to go back. Thank you all. Honestly, I am SO grateful. Blessings to you all. Wonderful experience

05-Jan-2023

Jamal is our tour guide. Right from the start, he created a group chat in whatsapp and if any issues to make sure we contact him. He was on the ball with every issue thrown at him. Luggage being left behind, stragglers wondered off in a different path, hotel room etc. He explains the various site along our route to give us a better understanding of the local cultures. We had a great time, thanks to Jamal.

Land of the Northern Lights 5 day tour of Iceland

10-Sep-2021

The Land of Northern Lights tour was a triumph! My tour of Southern Iceland was absolutely wonderful. The venues chosen, the timing allotted at each venue and the variety of things to experience was nearly perfect. Our guide, "Thor", was smart, amusing, full of history and anecdotal stories as well as being incredibly hospitable and helpful. This small group experience was my first, but not my last thanks to On the Go.

On The Go Tours Sri Lanka was an incredible experience that was made even better by our tour guide Akthar. He was incredibly knowledgeable about his country and he loved sharing it with us. The tour covers a wide range of activities so you can truly experience what Sri Lanka is all about. The beautiful 4-5 star hotels at the end of every day was an absolute bonus. Thanks for a great trip OTGT I’m sure this won’t be my last

King Tutankhamun 10 day tour of Egypt

16-Sep-2021

I have just returned from my tour with On The Go and it was an amazing trip! From arriving at the airport and meeting the OTG representative, everything was well organised and hassle free.  Our tour guide was Amir. He is awesome!! From the beginning he was so friendly and enthusiastic about showing us around Egypt, giving us loads of information at each place and time to explore ourselves. Learnt so much from him about this fascinating place, and he was always happy to answer more questions.   The trip itself was amazing. There's lots of travelling on this trip, but it's really not too bad, and the sights you see when you get to where you are going are worth it. I'm not a big fan of boats, but the Felluca ride across the Nile was pretty fun too.  On the first day I also did the optional tour of Cairo with Ahmed Helal - another excellent guide from OTG. It's worth doing this add on as you don't spend much time in Cairo, and you go to three very different places.  I'm so glad that I decided to do this trip. It was just ace.  If you're thinking about it too, you should probably just book it. And hopefully you get Amir as your guide.

TOTALLY MOROCCO We booked a 9 day tour of Morocco visiting many main cities and places of interest. The coach was very comfortable and we felt safe with the driver Suliman. The guide was Hicham Touraouine and he was fantastic. He spoke perfect English as well as French, Arabic and Berber. He was so kind and considerate and made a good tour great. We particularly enjoyed ‘glamming in the Sahara Desert. So much to see and do and great food and company. We would definitely use On The Go Tours again, especially if Hicham was the guide. I would give this tour group no stars if possible. The tour was not guaranteed but they did not inform me when I booked and they did not have enough people. Way after I booked they said I needed a doctors letter because I was over 70. Also way after booking I was informed I needed travel insurance. They knew my age when I booked. They would not refund my tour even though it was 4 months away.

Terrible tour of India. For some reason On the Go hadn't realised that my room mate had booked her own room for the first night of tour. So the hotel in Delhi had tried to put me in her room after midnight, by wheeling in an extra bed. She went Crazy!! I then had to sit in hotel reception for hours. While the tour guide said he couldn't find me a room. Throughout the tour the guide consistently ask me and my room mate for money for my room, causing more friction between us. Don't book with this company had the worst experience ever. Go with Intrepid or G Adventure

I had used them once before and loved them. I decided to try them again for a Baltic tour not knowing that they put me on another Tour group- Baltic vision. Loved that tour but was not impressed they marked up the cost for me over 100%. I understand taking some for yourself because of paperwork, but over double the cost everyone else paid on the tour. Just double check before you book with them that you’re not over paying.
