Day 1
Location: Mellet

Day 2 Forgotten Front & Le Touret Memorial
Location: Neuve-Chapelle, Richebourg, Bethune, Le Touret, Festubert, Givenchy

Today we look at the early British offensives on the Western Front in 1915, visiting the battlefields at Neuve-Chapelle, and seeing the Indian Corps Memorial.
We then look at the Aubers Ridge battle, seeing the ‘Cinder Track’ at Richebourg where the attack went in.
After lunchtime in Bethune, we visit the Le Touret Memorial to the Missing which commemorates those on the ‘Forgotten Front’ in 1914/15 who have no known grave. We then see the battlefields around Festubert and Givenchy, looking also at the story of the war underground and the tunnellers who served here.
Day 3 Loos Battlefields & Hill 70
Location: Loos-en-Gohelle, Vermelles, Bethune, Hill 70, St Mary's ADS Cemetery

We begin on the Loos battlefields of 1915, seeing the site of the Hohenzollern Redoubt where unit after unit fought during WW1. We will see some of the memorials to the men who fought and died here, and walk part of the battlefield.
We then visit Vermelles British Cemetery, where many of the dead from this area are buried, and after lunchtime in Bethune, we explore the area around Hill 70 where the 1915 operations took place and the Canadians fought in 1917.
We then look at the terrible story of the ‘Field of Corpses’ at Loos in 1915, and see the open ground where so many died. At St Mary’s ADS Cemetery, we examine the moving story of Rudyard Kipling’s son, John, who fell here with the Irish Guards.
Day 4 Loos Anniversary & Notre Dame de Lorette
Location: Lens

As today is the anniversary of the battle, we will attend any local ceremonies or have one of our own at the Dud Corner Cemetery and Loos Memorial. We will then also see the Loos British Cemetery with its new extension, and discover the story of many British and Commonwealth soldiers who have been recovered from the battlefields around Lens in recent times. We take a short battlefield walk out to the ‘Lone Tree’ which was in the heart of the fighting in 1915 and is now a memorial. After lunch, we will look at the French Offensives of 1915 at Notre Dame de Lorette, seeing the French National Cemetery and the Lens 14-18 Centre, as well as the ‘Ring of Remembrance’, a memorial which commemorates all those soldiers who fell in this wider area of northern France.

Location: Mellet
