Tour Overview

Treat your senses to a tour of Scandinaviaā€™s towering mountains, crystalline fjords and Viking history on this immersive itinerary. Admire the spires and ramparts of Akershus Castle in Oslo, the humming seaside economy of the Bergen Fish Markets and Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. Journey on the FlĆ„m railway through the mountain pass to Myrdal and onwards to Bergen. The delights of the Fjords are front and center on the Lysefjord Cruise, with panoramic views and a close encounter with the iconic, 2000-foot tall, Pulpit Rock. In Denmark, pause for a little local dining in Aalborg where a farm-to-table feast of Danish delicacies is whipped up from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Across the Jutland Peninsula on the island of Fyn, the Hans Christian Andersen House tells the story of the famous fairytale writerā€”charting his life, loves and travels.

Day 1: Welcome To Oslo

Location: Oslo

Your adventure begins in Norways Capital, Oslo.Ā In the evening, join your Travel Director and fellow guests to enjoy a Welcome Dinner with wine.

Day 2: Cosmopolitan Oslo Relaxed Start

Location: Oslo

Accommodation: Thon Hotel Opera, Oslo.

Sightseeing with a Local Expert includes views of Akershus Castle and the Royal Palace. Walk around the Opera House and marvel at the stricking contemporary architecture of the new Bjorvika district. Wander through Frogner Park, with its intriguing sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. The afternoon is at your leisure to continue exploring as you wish. Perhaps join an Optional Experience to the most modern ski jump in the world? Maybe explore City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony is held, or walk upon the famous architecture of Oslo Opera House.

Day 3: Oslo - Ullensvang

Location: Oslo, Ullensvang

Accommodation: Ullensvang Hotel.

Journey across the Hardanger Plateau, Europe's greatest mountain plateau and the largest national park in the Nordic countries, before arriving at your hotel in Ullensvang.

Day 4: Ullensvang - FlƄm - Bergen Relaxed Start

Location: Ullensvang, Flam Railway Museum, Bergen

Accommodation: Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz, Bergen.

Travel to the Coastal City of Bergen by a traditional train of the FlƄm Railway. Journey from the shores of the Aurlandsfjord on one of the world's steepest railways through tunnels that spiral in and out of the mountainside. And breathe in the fresh mountain air while you drink in the views of the rushing waterfalls, glacial rivers and verdant scenery. This evening join your Travel Director at a Local Restaurant for Dinner.

Day 5: The Hanseatic Port Of Bergen Relaxed Start

Location: Bergen

Accommodation: Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz, Bergen.

A Local Expert introduces you to Bergen. The ancient Hanseatic port city still largely looks to the sea for its living, as evidenced by the picturesque and lively Fish Market, set in a charming location in the heart of the city. The market also has stalls selling a colorful variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers, handicrafts and souvenirs. After seeing the 13th century Haakonā€™s Hall, there will be time to explore all that this exciting town has to offer. Perhaps you might like to visit the home of composer Edvard Grieg, before ascending Mount FlĆøyen by the only funicular in Scandinavia.

Day 6: A Coastline Like No Other Relaxed Start

Location: Bergen, Stavanger

Accommodation: Thon Hotel Maritim, Stavanger

Travel along this incredible coastline and sail across fjords passing an abundance of islands. Arrive in Stavanger, one of Norwayā€™s oldest cities founded almost 900 years ago. The city has continued to evolve with changing times and now is the headquarters of the Norwegian oil industry, Stavanger is a fusion of old world charm and cosmopolitan flair.

Day 7: Lyngdal And Kristiansand

Location: Stavanger, Lyngdal, Kristiansand

Accommodation: Thon Hotel Parken, Kristiansand.

In Lyngdal, tour the Wild Salmon Center with a biologist guide, learn about protecting salmon populations and the local ecosystem. Observe the majestic fish in their own environment, via a unique indoor 'staircase' and viewing area. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive around the southern cape of Norway. Upon arrival in Kristiansand, your orientation walk of the city Center will show you the Dom Kirke and the Nupen Fountain. Savor a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8: Kristiansand To Aalborg

Location: Kristiansand, Hirtshals, Aalborg

Say farewell to Norway as you sail across the Skagerrak to Hirtshals, Denmark. Your journey continues to Aalborg, Denmark's forth largest city.

Day 9: Journey To Odense

A vibrant mix of youthful energy and a blast from the past makes Aarhus a city with an energetic pulse. Join your Travel Director for an orientation of the city center. See the City Hall, ARoS Aarhus Art Museum - topped with an immense and interactive artwork - and Dokk1, the largest public library in Scandinavia. En route to Odense, you will stop for a tour of Jelling, visiting the Home of the Viking Kings Museum. Then cross the Jutland Peninsula to the town of Odense, on the island of Fyn where this evening we will join for dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 10: Odense And The Fairytales Of Fyn Relaxed Start

Location: Odense, Copenhagen

Accommodation: Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, Copenhagen.

Visit Odense with Insight Choice. Choose to visit the Hans Christian Andersen House, a museum dedicated to his life and works. Learn all about the famous fairytale writer as you follow his career, travels and love life. Alternatively, visit Odense Cathedral and hear tales of Saint Canute.

Day 11: Wonderful Copenhagen Relaxed Start

Location: Copenhagen

Meet your Local Expert and pay a visit to Hans Christian Andersen's iconic Little Mermaid statue. Scenic Iceland and the Northern Lights

The number is our group was small which meant we got to know each other. Our tour guide, Laura Spiers, was excellent as was our driver. The food was good, and of course everything we saw in Iceland was beautiful and educational.

The trip was fantastic. Everything was well planned and exceeded my expectations. All insight personal were courteous helpful and professional Ann Manual and Kevin were a topnotch team There was attention to every detail and at all times felt safe and always a personal touch to the trip. The motor coach was clean and roomy and there was multiple wipe downs during the day All hotels were top notch and all staff at the hotels and restaurants were helpful and courteous I would recommend this trip as it gave you a fantastic view of the natural wonders of the the West.
