Swayambhunath Stupa, The Monkey Temple (World Heritage Site) Watches over the valley from the top of a hillock on its western side. Check out our Q&As

  • Are airport transfers included in this tour?

    airport pick up and drop

  • 2. How difficult/challenging is this trek? Does it fit any trekkers?

This trek is a kind of moderate level of trekking. The tour has rolling flats and steeply ascends, but it is generally manageable for the trekker of any age with little trekking experience. The trekker has to be physically fit, though. However, it is advised to have some training before planning this EBC Trip to adjust to high altitude sickness. There is no exact age limit for this trekking as seniors and minimum age people can still do it.

  • 1. How high is Everest’s Base Camp ?

Fly from Kathmandu(1310m) to Lukla (2860m) via small plane (17-19 people occupy), which takes about 30 minutes; and start trekking further to the south face of Mount Everest Base Camp (EBC) at an altitude of 5380m or 17600ft above sea level.

  • 3. How far or long does it take to reach the EBC?

The total Everest Base Camp Trek Distance is 62 Kilometers or 38.58 miles. It will take 7 to 8 days to reach Everest Base Camp (EBC) and 3-4 days to return to Lukla. Usually, the trek to EBC is slower because of the high altitude and possibility of AMS; you will need to adjust to the new heights. Each day you will walk less than 8-10 Kilometers; the higher your trek, your walking speed will get slower. It is suggested to have some extra days in Kathmandu and start the hike right after the day of your arrival because of flight cancellations due to unfavorable weather conditions. It is wise to follow a 12-Day standard EBC Trekking itinerary (To and From Lukla) to avoid AMS and have a smooth trekking experience.

understanding our goals and our family’s needs

06-Aug-2023

When we arrived in Kathmandu, we did not have a trekking plan. Our hotel, Himalayan Ghar, put us in contact with Bishnu and Himalayan Sanctuary Adventures. Bishnu met with us over three mornings to get an understanding our goals and our family’s needs, considering we were trekking with a 12-year old and had online work obligations. He quickly arranged a perfect and flexible trek to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Ri to suit our specific needs. He was so efficient with making arrangements, we left within a couple of days. Prem, also of Himalayan Sanctuary Adventures, accompanied us on a shopping trip to purchase last-minute necessary gear and ensure we were treated fairly by shop merchants. The guide and porter Bishnu hired were incredibly caring, knowledgeable and flexible and helped us to successfully reach Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Ri. Bishnu remained in contact with us daily to ensure our trip was going well. We loved our time in the Everest Region and our success and pleasure were due to the kind and caring practices of the Himalayan Sanctuary Adventures and their employees. They excel at planning personalized and flexible experiences and follow through exceedingly well at all stages of the trip. We strongly recommend this company, as you will feel well cared for throughout your entire trip and enjoy the personalized experience. Additionally, this company is local and hires all local individuals. It is important to support the local Nepali people and businesses with your travel dollars. Working with Bishnu and his team was pleasure and a highlight of our travels in Nepal.
