Day 1: Amman

Location: Amman

Accommodation: Mena Tyche Hotel Amman

Arrive at any time.

After learning more about the tour and plans for the following day, choose to head out for an optional dinner at a local restaurant with the CEO and traveling companions.

Amman is a very big city and there is not one central area to stay - hotels are spread out across various neighbourhoods within the city. For this reason, to move around the city in your free time, you will have to take a taxi, please feel free to ask your CEO for recommendations and assistance.

Additional Information: Please check the hotel notice board for more information on the location of this meeting or ask at reception. Please bring your passport and travel insurance documents to this meeting, as you will be required to fill out some important pre-trip admin documents.

ACTIVITY: Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.

Day 2: Amman/‘Ajlūn

Location: Amman

Accommodation: Ajloun Nature Reserve

Meals Included: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER

Travel to the undiscovered Jordan and head north to the Ajloun Nature Reserve for a half day of trekking.

After breakfast, head north out of Amman to the lesser known region of Ajloun. The most common image of Jordan is that of an arid land covered in desert. Enjoy a short trek in Ajloun Nature Reserve. Transfer up to Ajloun passing through areas surrounded by woodland, olive groves, and strong oak trees. A hidden gem in Jordan, the area's natural beauty is impressive.

TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.

ACTIVITY: Enjoy a short trek in the Ajloun Nature Reserve, a hidden gem in Jordan. This oasis in the desert boasts impressive natural beauty. Follow a trail surrounded by olive groves, oak trees, pistachio trees, and carob trees – there are a number of trails throughout the park's 13km (8 mi), which vary in difficulty. The trek is a simple walk, but good footwear is recommended.

Day 3: ‘Ajlūn/Dead Sea

Location: ‘Ajlūn

Accommodation: Ramada Resort by Wyndham Dead Sea

Meals Included: BREAKFAST, DINNER

Spend the morning hiking and wading through streams in Wadi Mujib before enjoying a float in the famous Dead Sea.

Begin today with a short bus ride to Wadi Mujib, and spend the morning hiking, climbing, and walking down to the Dead Sea.

From Wadi Mujib, continue the short distance to the Dead Sea. Known for its high salinity, opt to bob like a cork in the healing water or cover yourself in therapeutic mud. There is also the option to visit the site of Jesus' baptism.

Overnight at the Dead Sea.

Additional Information: In the winter (November-March) a dry trail is available called the Ibex Trail (3-4 hrs), and in the summer (April-October) visitors can hike a wet trail called Mujib Canyon Trail (4 hrs). These trails both offer spectacular scenery surrounded with very different conditions for canyoneering.

TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.

ACTIVITY: Head off for an exhilarating canyoneering experience hiking the Mujib Canyon Trail, a wet trail involving wading through streams in the Wadi Mujib. Enjoy spectacular scenery and a chance to see local wildlife.

ACTIVITY: Discover the legendary healing qualities of the Dead Sea, famous for its unique mineral makeup and salinity. Spot salt chunks drifting by like icebergs on the water’s surface. Take a dip yourself and float like a buoy or cover yourself in the mud along the shore, believed to have medicinal and therapeutic benefits. There are showers nearby to wash off after.

Day 4: Dead Sea/Petra

Location: Dead Sea

Accommodation: Seven Wonders Hotel

Meals Included: BREAKFAST

Visit the impressive Dana Biosphere Reserve and trek through this unique landscape. Transfer to Petra for the night and opt to pay a late night visit to Petra to observe the site illuminated by candlelight.

Visit the Dana Nature Reserve, an oasis among the golden expanse of the desert. Take a guided walk through the reserve, following the Feathers Canyon Trail, which leads past Nabatean tombs to a breathtaking siq. Dana is a diverse environment containing a wide variety of plant life, including many that are endemic to the reserve. There are also several endangered species here to keep an eye out for.

ACTIVITY: Hike the Feathers Canyon Trail to Shaq ar-Reesh, a Nabatean mountain retreat. Start the walk in flower-filled fields, and do some climbing and scrambling on the way to the highest point, passing water channels along the way.

TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.

Day 5: Petra

Location: Petra

Accommodation: Seven Wonders Hotel

Meals Included: BREAKFAST

Trek through gorges and canyons from Little Petra to the main attraction: the rose-rock city of Petra. Enjoy a guided tour of this magnificent World Heritage Site.

Take the next two days to explore the site of Petra. First, head over to Al Beidha, also known as Little Petra. This site is literally hidden away in a mountain and is a miniature version of Petra, containing a number of notable tombs. It offers a glimpse of Petra without the crowds.

After exploring this site, make the short trek over to Petra itself. The trail is approx 5km (3.1 mi) between the sites. The excitement builds when first glimpsing the Monastery from a vantage point high above the ruins of Petra. The rest of the day is free to explore the site, before heading back through the siq to the hotel.

Approx travel times: Wadi Rum to Amman, 3.5 hrs

ACTIVITY: Explore the narrow alleyway with tall cliff walls and carved rock of Little Petra, which is similar to its larger namesake. Just 9km (5.6 mi) from Wadi Musa, it's worth the visit.

ACTIVITY: Journey to Petra to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site. Wind your way through the Siq, a narrow, 1km-long (.6 mi) gorge flanked by soaring 80m-high (262 ft) sandstone walls. Take in the astounding colours and patterns of the rock, and, at the end of this passage, catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh, the famed treasury of Petra.

Explore in depth with your CEO and get a brief history of the city, one of the greatest attractions in the Middle East. The Nabateans carved this capital from the living rock of the surrounding mountains in Petra. Visit monuments that include the Pharaoh's Castle, the triumphal arch, the amphitheatre, and the monastery.

Day 6: Petra/Wadi Rum

Location: Petra

Accommodation: Al Zawaydah Desert Camp

Meals Included: BREAKFAST, DINNER

Enjoy a free morning exploring Petra before continuing to Wadi Rum in the heart of Jordan's desert. Continue by 4x4 to a Bedouin desert camp in the Deisah desert and enjoy a traditional meal while learning more about the ancient Bedouin culture and history before bunking down under the stars.

After breakfast, have the morning free to visit Petra again. The site is large, but you can set your own pace depending on the weather and the interests of the group.

After the Nabatean ruins, drive to Wadi Rum, a vast, silent landscape of ancient riverbeds and the largest and most magnificent of Jordan's desert landscapes. There may be time this afternoon for a 4x4 trip into the desert.

On arrival, head to a comfortable tented camp at Dissah Oasis in Wadi Rum Desert. Enjoy a traditional meal for dinner and learn more about this ancient culture. Be sure to keep a look out at the night sky; the absence of city lights means that the opportunities for star gazing are really impressive.

TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.

ACTIVITY: Head deep into the desert by 4x4 and enjoy the amazing natural beauty and unique landscape on this unforgettable drive. Along the way drive up red sand dunes, view stunning rock formations, and visit ancient sites to view rock art and inscriptions.

ACTIVITY: Stay overnight in the desert, enjoying a traditional meal and learning more about the ancient Bedouin culture. Spend the evening sitting under the stars, around a fire, listening to stories from the Bedouin hosts. If really lucky, they may bring the drums out for some music!

Your accommodation in the desert is in individual cabins that are all attached. Each room contains a bathroom and basic linens are provided, but many travellers prefer to bring a sleep sheet for extra comfort.

Day 7: Wadi Rum/Amman

Location: Wadi Rum

Accommodation: Mena Tyche Hotel Amman

Meals Included: BREAKFAST, LUNCH

Visit a G Adventures supported community for a bike ride and traditional lunch before heading back to Jordan's capital for the evening.

Safi Kitchen is part of a nonprofit organization working in the South Ghour region, south of the Dead Sea, to create opportunities for members of the local community. The mission of the company is to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and natural resources of the area. Their tourism program is key to the expansion of their environmental and social mission.

TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.

ACTIVITY: Embark on a bike tour of the area before stopping for lunch at Al Safi Kitchen to enjoy a traditional Jordanian meal. Take a tour of the grounds, taste a delicious meal with the freshest ingredients from Safi’s farms, and learn about how this nonprofit is working to create a sustainable future for community members near the Dead Sea. The mission of the company is to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and natural resources of the area. They also offer equal job opportunities for all members of the local community.

Solo Travellers

We believe solo travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and solo travellers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.

Meals

Eating is a big part of traveling. Travelling with G Adventures you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. The above information applies to G Adventures group trips. For Independent trips please check the itinerary for details of meals included. For all trips please refer to the meals included and budget information for included meals and meal budgets.

  • Emergency Fund

Please also make sure you have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an 'emergency' fund, to be used when circumstances outside our control (ex. a natural disaster) require a change to our planned route. This is a rare occurrence!

  • Solo Travellers

We believe solo travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and solo travellers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.

  • Tipping

Tipping is a way of life in the Middle East. Locals themselves will usually tip anyone who provides them with services. In many cases, people depend on the tips they receive to supplement the low salary and wages of the Middle East region. While on tour in the Middle East, it is customary and even expected to tip small service providers such as restaurant and bar waiters, hotel staff, reception, cleaning personnel, bell boys, taxis and van drivers. Tips are regarded as an essential means of supplementing income for those working in the tourism industry. To make things as easy as possible and avoid embarrassing situations, G Adventures has developed a tipping kitty system where your CEO will collect a contribution from everybody at the start of your tour and use this kitty to tip anybody who has provided services to the group as a whole. On Day 1 of your tour, your CEO will be able to advise on the amount required from everybody to form the tipping kitty for your trip. Please plan approximately $56.50 USD per person for the entirety of the tour (this does not include your G Adventures CEO). You can pay in USD or the equivalent local currency (preferably USD). The CEO will be able to advise you on the exchange rate and the total required in either currency. If at any time you feel that any service provider failed in maintaining or delivering good service, please bring it immediately to the attention of your CEO so a deduction of tips can take place. At the end of your trip if you felt that your G Adventures CEO did an outstanding job, tipping is also expected and appreciated. The precise amount is entirely a personal preference, however $11-13 USD per person per day can be used as a general guideline.

  • About Accommodation

On this trip you can expect to stay in small local hotels or pensions (with the exception of the start and finish hotels, which are often larger city hotels), which will vary a little in standard and facilities: some may not have elevators, air-conditioning or English-speaking staff, but most importantly all are locally-run and in excellent central locations to give you maximum time for exploring the sights.

  • About our Transportation

On this trip we will travel by air-conditioned private buses for most of the journeys. En route to Wadi Rum and our desert camp we will travel in 4x4 vehicles.

  • Important Notes

RAMADAN According to the lunar cycle, Ramadan will fall between Feb 28th - Mar 29th 2025, and Feb 17th - Mar 19th 2026. Please note that Ramadan is a month of fasting observed by Muslims throughout the world, during which time the followers of Islam should not eat or drink between sunrise and sunset. There may be some limitations to services and disruptions to schedules during Ramadan, but generally our tours still operate effectively during this period and food is available to non-Muslims throughout the day. It is very important to display increased cultural sensitivity during Ramadan. Please wear loose fitting clothes, that cover knees and shoulders, and try to avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public out of respect for those who can't at that time. TIPPING NOTE: Tipping is a way of life in the Middle East. Locals themselves will usually tip anyone who provides them with services. Due to this expectation, your CEO will collect a Tipping Kitty at the start of the tour. For more details see the Tipping section below.

  • Local Dress

While visiting mosques and other religious monuments you should dress modestly, cover your shoulders and you shouldn't wear short shorts or skirts. Outside of capital cities and the more touristic centres, local dress is often more conservative and as a matter of respect we ask that both men and women are aware of this and recommend loose-fitting clothes with your shoulders covered. Ask your CEO for more specific advice.

  • My Own Room Exceptions

Day 2 (cabin), Day 6 (tented camp).

  • A Couple of Rules

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travellers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they utilize the services of paid sex workers, in any capacity.

  • Safety and Security

Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure. We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safe keeping of your passport, air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items. Leave your valuable jewellery at home - you won't need it while travelling. Many of the hotels we use have safety deposit boxes, which is the most secure way of storing your valuables. A lock is recommended for securing your luggage. When travelling on a group trip, please note that your CEO has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the trip itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Your CEO will accompany you on all included activities. During your trip you will have some free time to pursue your own interests, relax and take it easy or explore at your leisure. While your CEO will assist you with options available in a given location please note that any optional activities you undertake are not part of your itinerary, and we offer no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running them. Please use your own good judgment when selecting an activity in your free time. Although the cities visited on tour are generally safe during the day, there can be risks to wandering throughout any major city at night. It is our recommendation to stay in small groups and to take taxis to and from restaurants, or during night time excursions. Protests and Demonstrations- Protests and demonstrations, even those that are well intended, have the potential to turn violent with no warning. Counter protests can also turn violent. Action by security forces to disperse demonstrators and protesters may occur at any time. If you are in an area where demonstrators or protesters are gathering, avoid the temptation of staying for a good photo opportunity and leave the area immediately. Water based activities have an element of danger and excitement built into them. We recommend only participating in water based activities when accompanied by a guide(s). We make every reasonable effort to ensure the fun and adventurous element of any water based activities (in countries with varying degrees of operating standards) have a balanced approach to safety. It is our policy not to allow our CEOs to make arrangements on your behalf for water based activities that are not accompanied by guide(s).Swimming, including snorkeling, is always at your own risk. We take all prudent measures in relation to your safety. For ways to further enhance your personal safety while traveling, please visit: www.gadventures.com/travel-resources/safety/

  • Group Leader Description

All G Adventures group trips are accompanied by one of our Chief Experience Officers (CEO). The aim of the CEO is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. We also use local guides where we think more specific knowledge will add to the enjoyment of the places we are visiting - we think it's the best of both worlds.

  • Feedback

After your travels, we want to hear from you! Your feedback information is so important to us that we'll give you 5% off the price of your next G Adventures trip if your feedback is completed on-line within 30 days of finishing your trip. Your tour evaluation will be e-mailed to you 24 hours after the conclusion of your trip. If you do not receive the tour evaluation link in the days after your tour has finished, please drop us a line at customersolutions@gadventures.com and we will send it on to you.

  • International Flights

  • Trip Specific Safety

Like anywhere in the world, major cities have areas safer than others, use common sense, be aware of your surroundings and mind your personal belongings.

  • Minimum Age

You must be 18 to travel unaccompanied on a G Adventures tour. For minors travelling with a guardian over 21 years old, the minimum age is 12.

  • Money Exchange

The currency in Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). ATMs are found within main cities in Jordan and will generally accept cards on the Visa and Mastercard networks. It is a great idea to travel with both a Visa and Mastercard if at all possible as while there is no hard and fast rule, some banks seem to only work with one brand of card. Please note, your bank will change a fee for overseas withdrawals. Cash is recommended for times when ATMs are not accessible. Euros, British Pounds and US Dollars are all easy to exchange to the Local currency. Please note that you should bring some cash with you for emergency situations but carrying only cash is a high safety risk. ATM card/s and some cash is the ideal mix. If you are bringing US Dollars, please make sure that the notes are new and in good condition. Notes older than 1996, or with any tears or blemishes may not be accepted. Be fussy with your bank when buying cash! As currency exchange rates can fluctuate often we ask that you refer to the following website for daily exchange rates: www.xe.com

Space is limited on transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person. You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage. It is important to pack clothes for warm to hot days and cool evenings. A set of smart casual clothes is also advisable.

When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader, who will take note of your insurance details. Our guide Zuhair made the journey so easy and enjoyable, he was very thorough about the history and cultural significance on all the sites we visited and very accommodating to all our individual needs.

Jordan as a whole was a fantastic experience, beautiful country and warm people. And our tour guide Zuhair has only added much positively to this wonderful journey.

The tours are always organised so well and you get so much fitted in to a short time. Having everything organised for you just takes the stress out of arranging everything yourself and also you then have a group of fellow travellers (and ceo) to enjoy the experience with!

One of the best itineraries in a very welcoming country made the tour such an amazing experience!

I loved the small group and our guide Talal was fantastic!

Great overall. Wadi Rum camp was freezing and not very comfortable. Warm showers would have been nice. Also, no hotels had bars or sold alcohol. Need to include places with this option and I would gladly pay more for it.
