Itinerary

Day 1

Transfer to our group hotel in Kas.

Day 2

We start our holiday with a gentle warm-up day. The morning is spent on an
orientation walk discovering Kas, then we can enjoy coastal views through the
olive groves on the way out to Limanagzi beach, a lovely strip of beach only
accessible by boat from Kas or on foot. At Limanagzi there will be time to
relax or have a swim before we head back to Kas by another route, where you
may see some rock tombs, a feature of the area. It was a custom of the
Lycians (the predominant people of the area between the 15-14th centuries BC)
to build tombs for their dead in mountainsides, or at least in high places,
as they believed they would be carried to the afterlife by winged creature.

There is however also the option to take a water taxi back to Kas.
Walk: Distance 6 km Ascent 205m Descent 208m Max Altitude 95m Time: 2.5 hours

Day 3

Your leader will advise on things to do in and around Kas, including some
self-guided walking options. A very popular excursion is sea kayaking at
Kekova. Sea kayaking is the alternative way to explore the famous region of
Kekova and Turkey's beautiful Turquoise Coast. Our optional guided tour
departs from the small fishing port of Ucagiz (approx 45 min. transfer from
Kas) to explore the island of Kekova and float over its sunken city. We
disembark at the charming hillside village of Simena and stroll up to a
superb fortress where we can enjoy spectacular bird's eye views over the
aquamarine blue bays, inlets and islands below. We will have a late lunch and
then transfer back to Kas in the mid-afternoon.

Day 4

The walk starts in the village, taking us past an Ottoman cemetery, then over
open terrain with views of the valley and Patara Beach in the distance. The
walk continues by following an ancient aqueduct, still in use to this day.
Along the way we can fill our water bottles with water fresh from the
mountains. We then climb up through pine forests, finishing the walk at the
bottom of a small stony track where our minibus will be waiting. A short
drive takes us to lunch at a local village, where you can sample Turkish pide
(pizza) or fresh trout.
Walk: Distance 7.5 km Ascent 407m Descent 275 m Max Altitude 360m Time: 3.5
hours

Day 5

Today we will travel inland for approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to visit
Arycanda, a city renowned in Lycian times for its love of pleasure and
merrymaking as well as its tendency to be in constant debt. Arycanda is the
most impressive of the Lycian cities and its setting is one of the most
outstanding in all of southern Turkey. After visiting the site we will enjoy
a delicious home-cooked lunch with one of the local families in the village.

In the afternoon we drive approximately 20 minutes to the Ordubek Plateau and
begin the 8km walk to Yazirbeli village. This is the highest point of the
day, and from here we begin our descent with fabulous views of the
surrounding landscape, made more colourful by the surrounding cedar and
juniper trees.
Walk: Distance 8 km Ascent 98m Descent 672 m Max Altitude 1542m Time: 4 hours

Day 6

We start the day with a short transfer (approx. 40 mins) to Yesil Koy
village, where we start our varied walk along the route of an old aqueduct,
which, in ancient times, supplied the water to the city of Patara. Patara was
one of the most important cities of the Lycian Union and is also known as St.
Nicholas' (aka Father Christmas) birthplace. After 9 km we finish our walk at
the impressive ruins in the Patara National Park, where you have the option
to explore the ancient city, visit the ancient theatre, bouleuterion
(Parliament building) and some other remains such as the necropolis. Time
allowing, there is the option of going to the seemingly endless beach at
Patara for a swim. The soft sand and shallow sea make this a perfect spot for
sea turtles to come and lay their eggs. Not surprisingly therefore the beach
today is a protected area.
Walk: Distance 9 km Ascent 218m Descent 378m Max Altitude 215m Time: 4 hours

Day 7

Today is free for relaxing and exploring Kas, a small charming coastal town
with a pretty harbour. Although tourism has discovered Kas it has managed to
retain much of its old charm. There are opportunities to walk to the ancient
theatre on the peninsula as well as the nearby rock-cut tombs. For the more
active, you can try your hand at diving or paragliding.

Walking, swimming and eating

We enjoyed walks with amazing views and lovely bea

We enjoyed walks with amazing views and lovely beaches. They were, though, different to and harder than on the itinerary/trip notes eg the first day 'walk through olive groves' includes and a cliff edge section needing you to use a rope! However when Alper, our leader, realised that the new itinerary, that included a 14km walk, was not going to suit our very diverse group he worked hard to change it to include everyone. Kas is a lovely town with interesting shops and food and still busy in October. Hotel Artemis was good, especially the breakfasts and views from the roof top breakfast room. Alper organised excellent meals for us each night, including one where we sat just a metre from the sea. The group of 15 all got on well.

What a fantastic trip! It was my first experience of Exodus and I would definitely use the company again. The days' activities were always well organised, enjoyable and interesting.

Turquoise Coast, Beautiful Kas

An excellent, varied, well organised and fun trip in beautiful Kas. This was our first time with Exodus and experiencing a walking holiday - and we enjoyed every moment of it from the stunning scenery, amazing walks, wonderful swimming and fantastic food.

Walking - the Turquoise Coast Not a leisurely stroll!

The group were very friendly and the hotel was great. Clean, modern, good location and a lovely pool. The guide was a good host and organised lovely restaurants every evening for us all. The walks however were not as advertised as some of the tracks are apparently now closed. The replacement walks were very challenging, steep ascents and descents on scree paths and rocky tracks sheer drops. The itinerary stated the longest walk was 8 k but it was actually 14k . One walk involved scrambling across a rocky path with a rope bridge and another bouldering across a cliff face with a steep drop. Not the leisurely walking detailed in the trip notes. and far too challenging for some group members The trip is graded 2 but was more challenging than the grade 3 trip I did before. The notes also do not indicate that there will be charges for the kayaking trip and lunch on the Arycanda trip. The trip is run by a local travel company and there is a definite disconnect between what is advertised and what you get. It is a great trip in a lovely location for someone who is fit and OK with heights but not the leisurely trip advertised

Beautiful country

Had a lovely trip with a very friendly and welcomi

Had a lovely trip with a very friendly and welcoming group. Our tour guide was lovely and made some great restaurant bookings for us including one meal right on the beach with the waves crashing! The sea kayaking was the highlight for me, lovely to be out on the water , though it is surprisingly hard work! The hotel Artemis we stayed at was very nice , clean modern rooms, lovely breakfast with amazing views, though getting a drink from the hotel bar was challenging at times!! My only criticism is the walks, they were much harder than leisurely/moderate , some of the walks on the itinerary had to be changed as paths were closed which is fine and unavoidable but the replacements were often on steep scree slopes and involved clambering over large rocks at times , some of the group found this v challenging especially with the heat! If these walks are to be kept then this trip needs to be upgraded in difficulty so people are aware what they will be facing. Turkey is beautiful though and thoroughly enjoyed my time here :)

Lovely scenery and excellent guide. Unfortunately,

Lovely scenery and excellent guide. Unfortunately, the walks were not those mentioned in the itinerary but were however interesting but much more challenging in places for what some of us would describe as leisurely. The only meals included in the package were the breakfasts, one of which we missed due to early start for an event and the second because of having to leave for the airport. Not a big issue but would have been nice to have been offered even a roll. The Sea Kayaking is a must, so enjoyable and the walk through the forest after the visit to Arykanda was an excellent day. Guide was so helpful and accommodating, full marks to him.
