Day 1 : Arrive Reykjavik / Visit The Blue Lagoon

rebeccas_boston

Location: Reykjavik

Accommodation Name: Hotel Klettur

Arrive in Reykjavik and collect your hire car. Drive to your first hotel in Reykjavik City (approx. 1hr). Depending on your arrival time, you can choose to either explore the lively city of Reykjavik or visit the Blue Lagoon. Should you arrive later in the day, we recommend visiting the Blue Lagoon on your second day (approx. 1hr 15mins drive from Reykjavik city or 45mins directly from Reykjavik Keflavik airport).

Within your tour, we have included Comfort Admission to the Blue Lagoon which includes entry from your allotted time to closing (approx. 8pm), use of the sauna, steam room/steam cave, a Silica mud mask, towel and drink from the in-water bar. You can also opt to add on an in-water massage or float therapy, relieving any pain and stress. You can choose from a selection of excellent dining options at the Blue Lagoon; enjoy fresh snacks and drinks at the Blue Cafe, sample culinary classics at the Lava Restaurant or indulge in the innovative Michelin-starred Moss Restaurant.

The famous Blue Lagoon's geothermal seawater is 70% ocean water and 30% freshwater, enriched with silica, algae, and minerals. Not only is it a delight simply to soak in, it heals, rejuvenates, and nourishes. National Geographic bestowed honours on 25 natural wonders divided into three categories: Sky, Land, and Water. The Blue Lagoon was included in the Water category and shared this recognition with esteemed company, including Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the Norwegian fjords, Lake Baikal in Siberia, and Victoria Falls in South Africa.

Day 2 : Visit The Blue Lagoon / Drive The Golden Circle

Location: Golden Circle

Accommodation Name: hotel near Hella

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today you move onto your next hotel located near Hella (approx. 2hr drive from Reykjavik). The town of Hella in Southern Iceland, enchants visitors with its tranquil allure and rich history. Positioned along the scenic Ytri-Ranga River, Hella presents a distinctive blend of serene beauty, recreational opportunities, and cultural heritage. It's an ideal destination for a peaceful retreat while staying close to Iceland's renowned natural attractions.

En-route to Hella, you can visit the Blue Lagoon if time didn't allow yesterday. Additionally, we recommend taking the scenic road to Hella and driving the iconic Golden Circle route. This classic journey covers around 230km (approx. 3hrs drive) and takes you to three beautiful natural attractions: Thingvellier National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.

Thingvellier National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can take turns standing on the North American and Eurasian continents. Movement between the plates is ongoing, resulting in this purified glacial meltwater becoming a popular snorkelling destination.

Geysir Geothermal Area is named after the 18m wide Geysir whose activity fates back to 1294 although is rarely active now. You can still see where it used to spout off, as well as other, more active geysers in the area.

Gullfoss Waterfall is a spectacular natural wonder fed by glacial waters flowing over 140 cubic metres per second. The first stage of the waterfall is around 11m, followed by a second, more significant waterfall with a drop of 21m. Thanks to the amount of mist created by Gullfoss, rainbows frequently appear at the falls. Gullfoss Waterfall is open year-round, but the path to the lower level observation area is closed in winter due to icy conditions.

Day 3 : Katla Fasttrack Ice Cave Tour

Location: Vik

Accommodation Name: hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today you will join a small group on a guided adventure into the natural ice caves of Iceland. We have included a tour of Katla (approx. 2.5hrs) with a 30-60min jeep ride to the glacier followed by approx. 1hr inside the glacier; all necessary equipment is included (helmet, headlamp and crampons).

You will meet the team in Vik where you will then embark on a beautiful and exciting super jeep ride to the secret area of one of 13 glaciers. You will take a short walk through an amazing glacier area towards the natural ice cave. The guide will always choose the most accessible and safe path. For increased safety, they maintain a series of paths and wooden bridges during the warmer months of the year. As the glacier constantly changes, the path may differ day to day, as will the look of the ice cave. This makes each tour a unique experience! We always make sure you have enough time to explore the glacier area and take plenty of photos to make this an unforgettable day!

Please note: This tour might not be suitable for people who are sensitive to motion sickness, or suffer from a back injury.

Day 4 : Explore Borgarfjordur

Location: Borgarfjordur

Accommodation Name: hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Spend your morning in Hella or move onto Borgarfjordur after breakfast (drive approx. 2.5hrs). The Borgarfjordur region in West Iceland has something for everyone: history enthusiasts, wellness lovers, and geography fans will all discover remarkable sights and activities to enjoy. Soak in the hot water springs of Krauma, one of Iceland's luxury bath resorts, whilst sampling exclusively local produce or visit the nearby town of Husafell with it's secluded canyon baths, hidden amongst forested hills.

Trails are plentiful with comfortable walking paths bordered by birch trees around the highly photogenic turquoise waters of the 'lava falls' Hraunfossar and the adjacent Barnafoss. Certainly worth exploring!

Day 5 : Onto Snaefellsnes

Location: Snaefellsnes

Accommodation Name: hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Often nicknamed 'Iceland in miniature' because of the wealth and diversity of its natural features, Snaefellsnes is a large peninsula extending from West Iceland. Boasting a diverse landscape of glaciers, mountains, lava fields, and coastal beauty, it's home to the Snaefellsjokull National Park, at the centre of which sits the Sneafellsjokull subglacial volcano that towers over the scenery.

The coastline is adorned with white and black sand beaches, while dramatic cliffs and rock formations provide nesting grounds for various seabird species; stop by the Ytri-Tunga beach to observe its year-round seal colony on your self guided exploration of this fascinating area.

Day 6 : Hvammsvik Hot Spring Baths

Location: Hvammsvik

Accommodation Name: hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

We have included entry to Hvammsvik Hot Spring Baths where you can enjoy 8 hot springs, steam bath, outdoor & indoor facilities, ocean swimming, and free paddleboard rental. Hvammsvik Hot Springs are situated right on the Atlantic ocean, with water levels and temperatures of some of the natural pools fluctuating with the tides.

This really is a unique and authentic experience amongst unspoiled nature away from the crowds. Enjoy their legendary seafood soup, drinks and world class art in beautifully designed facilities. When you're ready, drive to Reykjavik (approx. 1hr) to spend your last two nights in the city.

Very helpful and prompt service

06-Jan-2023

Very helpful and prompt service. I called to check for an already booked trip and once we sorted this, the agent was ready to help me with another booking as well. He actually waited for me to book my flight tickets, answered all my questions, informed me of all my options. Exodus is a tour company I am using regularly due to the quality of their trips, ease of booking and helpfulness of their customer service team

Stunning walking. Walking the Amalfi Coast

04-Nov-2021

This trip takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean walking with a guide and also discovering the wonders of Pompeii and Vesuvius. The hotel had a nice feel as family run, spotless and comfortable rooms, we were well looked after for breakfasts and dinner each day, and the barmen fixed some mean cocktails for us.!

It's amazing what you can do in a week! Cycling the Dalmatian Coast.

08-Oct-2021

This holiday was extremely enjoyable. The itinerary is well planned and the route takes you to a variety of destinations. Not having been to Croatia before I didn't know there were so many beautiful small islands and I loved the ferry and catarmaran rides. The coastal route we took was dramatic and the World Heritage sites in Split and Dubrovnik very interesting and worth visiting. The Adriatic Sea was warm, blue and inviting, good for swimming even in October. The hotels we stayed in varied in size from medium to large. I particularly liked the one just outside Dubrovnik as I had a sea view. Tourists were plentiful in Split and Dubrovnik but in the other places we stayed there was an end of season feel and it was quiet on the roads and in the resorts. The food was good and our guide was always able to recommend a nice restaurant for our evening meal. The weather in October was good for cycling - not hot, partly cloudy most days and one day it rained!

Fabulous company and trip

06-Jan-2023

We went overland from Cape Town to Zimbabwe through Botswana and Namibia. What a fantastic trip. Our first time with Exodus although we have travelled extensively around the world. We would highly recommend this company for such a brilliant trip - we got everything and more all at a good price. Thanks to everyone involved. We are looking at our next trip!

08-Oct-2024

We had a week walking and wine in the Duro valley with two local guides Louis and Theresa. They were both exceptional, knowledgeable, professional and funny. Our group of 11 had a great time. This was a premium tour. Our 4 star hotels were both well located clean and with great views. We had several local meals arranged by our guides with local people cooking for us. We did not meet any other walkers during our hikes only two shepherds. I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the local produce and wine. We both felt as we had learnt a lot about Portugal during this tour. We will use Exodus again. One of our group had done 30 tours with Exodus over the years. Quite an endorsement.

17-May-2023

I've done 8 trips in the last 14 years with Exodus, and have been rewarded with a 10% discount on all future bookings. I feel very confident that I'll receive pleasant, efficient service, and have the unusual holiday experience that I'm looking for each time. I've trekked to the top of snow-capped peaks, wild-camped in the desert, seen amazing spectacles of nature, visited 4 capital cities in a week, and learned about local culture and experienced local hospitality in a way that I simply wouldn't on a conventional holiday. The quality of the accommodation and guides can vary, but this is mainly down to cultural differences and things that Exodus can't control. I've only ever complained once, my complaint was taken seriously, and I was sent a discount voucher - you can't say fairer than that. I remain a loyal customer.

21-Aug-2024

Exodus are generally a good travel company. Things tend to run smoothly and trips well organised. Their customers tend to be at retirement age. Trips are a bit overpriced. I would also avoid trips in Europe, as these often focus on more coffee stops and meals, rather than walking. I would also recommend making sure your guide records any accidents you have, hopefully not applicable. I had one on Sierra de Aitana which the guide saw and knew about, but he and Exodus said it never happened when I followed up after the trip. I wasn’t putting in a claim, just suggested a safety improvement. They have since apologised and acknowledged this as an error. They are a good reliable option for outside of Europe trips.

Food came quickly. Staff very friendly and polite . However the chef or person preparing the food did not seem to read the menu! If it says a meal should come with vegetables, you should not have to ask for them. They served shepherds pie with garlic bread! The munchies ice cream sundae said it should come in a glass with a flake but came in a little bowl with just a few munchies! When asking the staff were happy to replace and correct but customer should get what they order and what menu says first time round!!

If you like to be mistreated Exodus is perfect for you. If you enjoy terrible choices for hotels and pseudo restaurants Exodus is perfect for you. Careless about their clients and loveless about their propositions. Exodus has been a dissatisfaction and disappointment about every dealing i and my group have had with him. Especially a man called Simone who just cares about the money he can get from you couldn’t care less about service.
