Day 2 – Alesund Adventure

Location: Ålesund

Accommodation Name: Hotel Brosundet

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Embark on an exhilarating e-bike and hiking adventure through the stunning peaks surrounding Ålesund. Starting with an effortless e-bike ride, ascend scenic trails before hiking to panoramic viewpoints. From these vantage points, take in breathtaking views of Ålesund’s iconic Art Nouveau architecture, fjords, and islands, all framed by the majestic Sunnmøre Alps.

Brosundet may look as though it is designed for urbanites, but urbanity in Sunnmøre comes predictably attached to hikes. Across the town you’ll find stairs up the granite wall of Aksla, a must-see that will reward you with one of the most enjoyable city views of the world. Walk up our beloved Sukkertoppen – on one side the outer-islands and the sea, on the other the string of islands that spread thinly into mainland. Visit Godøy, charmingly close and so beautiful – a hike up the trail in Alnes and a visit to the precarious slab of granite shooting out to the north.

Dinner this evening it at Apotekergata No. 5, the signature restaurant at Hotel Brosundet, is celebrated for its focus on local, seasonal ingredients. The restaurant showcases Ålesund’s culinary heritage by offering fresh seafood from nearby fjords, paired with wild herbs, berries, and game from surrounding forests. The historical setting, combined with modern Nordic cuisine, makes dining at Apotekergata No. 5 a sensory journey, deeply rooted in the region’s traditions.

Day 3 – Cultural Art Nouveau Tour

Location: Ålesund

Accommodation Name: Hotel Brosundet

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Set off this morning for a cultural walking tour of Ålesund which will immerse you in the town’s rich Art Nouveau architecture. The town is spectacularly located on small islands, where the fjords and mountains meet the ocean. Its eclectic vibe is exciting and offers Art Nouveau architecture, culture, beautiful shops, and local art. Here you will find the best tasting fish and local food experiences, also the best locally brewed coffee. After the devastating town fire in 1904, Ålesund was rebuilt as a stylish Art Nouveau town. The attractive architecture characterises the town centre, making a beautiful and interesting tour with a local guide. Walk through beautiful Kongensgate, Løvenvoldgata and charming Moloveien. If you want to learn more about the city’s history and architecture, we recommend a stop at the Art Nouveau Centre.

Dinner this evening is at Bro, a fine dining restaurant in the middle of Ålesund. With a beautiful view of Brosundet, you can enjoy local food and traditions.

Accommodation Name: Hotel Union Øye

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Cruise the serene Hjørundfjord aboard the Targa 44 Fjord Lilly, experiencing majestic fjords, towering peaks, and tranquil waters. The ultimate immersion deep into the fjords. Hjørundfjord is renowned for its untouched nature, and you will feel like you’ve stepped into a fairy tale world. The steep mountains plunge into the water, and you will witness waterfalls cascading down the cliffs.

Departing Ålesund’s scenic port, sail past stunning fjords and steep mountains to reach Trandal, a remote village accessible only by boat.

Nestled between the towering Sunnmøre Alps along the Hjørundfjord lies Trandal, a charming village accessible only by boat. Home to 17 permanent residents, Trandal features the delightful Christian Gaard Bygdetun, run by the Storeide siblings. In the late nineties, the once-used farm for goats, chickens, and cows in the small village underwent a thoughtful restoration, becoming an eccentric pub and a cozy restaurant for twenty guests. Notably, the village’s “dissa,” a high-hanging swing, has gained attention in recent years, offering a unique experience in its spectacular surroundings. A visit to Trandal promises an enchanting journey into its distinctive charm and attractions.

Continue to your accommodation. Set on the edge of one of the most secluded and breathtaking fjords in Norway, Hotel Union Øye is the perfect relaxing retreat. Follow in the footsteps of adventurers, writers and lovers to Union Øye, and to a place that has inspired artists and royals since the 1800s. Surrounded by high jagged mountain peaks that rise majestically into the sky above the historical buildings and the clear fjord waters below, it is time to switch off.

Experience the charm of dining at Hotel Union Øye, home to one of the world’s most beautiful dining rooms. With bold yet simple flavours, all meals are crafted with precision and passion. Your sommelier has curated a wine list that complements the culinary experience. Indulge in a delicious tasting adventure, pleasing both the eye and the palate.

Feel the thrill of a refreshing dip in the fjord’s crisp, clear waters, followed by the soothing warmth of a sauna. The invigorating contrast between the icy plunge and the sauna’s heat leaves you energised, rejuvenated, and deeply connected to Norway’s natural elements.

End the day with a relaxing sauna session. Indulge in the warmth of the sauna as it gently floats on the fjord, all while enjoying the breathtaking views of majestic mountains and tranquil waters. When you feel the heat, the way to a fresh bath is very short. Swimming in the outdoors is totally normal in Norway, and “wild swimming” is a somewhat strange concept – that’s just how you go for a swim. For those who are not convinced, there are many benefits of swimming outdoors. It increases circulation, gives your immune system a boost and burns calories. But maybe most important, it gives energy, you will feel recharged and its oh so fun.

Day 8 - Skarbø Gard Local Cider

Location: Storfjord

Accommodation Name: Storfjord Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Visit Skarbø Gård Cider Farm for a cider-tasting experience and a farm-to-table lunch. Learn about traditional Norwegian cider-making while enjoying local cuisine.

Skarbø is amongst the older farms of the area. The local people have lived and cultivated the land here for more than a thousand years. The farm stretches from the fjord and up to the summer farm (seter) Smørhola in the mountain right above. Down from the hills runs the Skarbø river, dividing the forests and fields in two, and forming the farm’s name: Skar bø means cut field. Day by day, year by year, generation by generation, they steadily made the land more fertile, laying the foundation for the use of fields, forests and pastures. We hope that for millennia to come, future generations can continue to live and grow food here, and therefore do our best to continue the legacy of farming in a holistic and integrative manner, in harmony with the local landscape and all that is alive.

Dinner today is at Storfjord Boathouse with Nils Flatmark, the executive chef at Storfjord Hotel. Enjoy exquisite, locally sourced meals in a serene waterfront setting, where the flavours of Norway’s fjords and forests are beautifully showcased, creating an intimate dining adventure immersed in nature.

Here we offer a variety of culinary experiences right by the fjord. One of the highlights of Båthuset is open-fire cooking. This technique brings out the natural flavours of the ingredients, creating dishes that are both simple and genuine. We believe in keeping things real, simple, and natural, allowing the quality of the food to shine through.
