Tour Overview

This safari from ´West to East in Zambia' includes the Highlights of Zambia's pristine National Parks. We will spend four days in the remote Liuwa Plains National Park in the West - one of Africa's last wilderness areas, visit the huge Kafue National Park and carry on to the famous South Luangwa National Park in the East of Zambia. A visit to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park with their rare rhinos is also included.

Day 1 : Livingstone

Location: Livingstone

Accommodation: Lodge, Resort, LodgeResort

Pick-up from the airport in Livingstone and transfer to our lodge in the outskirts of town. In the late afternoon a visit to the Victoria Falls (optional, U$ 20 pp entrance fee). Overnight at Maramba River Lodge or similar. Dinner in a restaurant (own expense). (-/-/-)

Day 2 : Ngonye Waterfalls

Location: Ngonye Falls National Park, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

Accommodation: Camp

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast we drive along the course of the Zambezi River up to the beautiful Ngonye Falls; not as mighty as the “big brother” further south, but equally impressive. The Zambezi splits into several channels and the masses of water find their way through the sandstone formations. We will hike to a small island to get the best view of the Falls. Camping near the river. (FB).

Day 3 - 5 : Liuwa Plains National Park

Location: Liuwa Plain National Park

Packing up camp, the we we drive further north to Mongu and cross the Barotse flood plains to the Liuwa Plains National Park. Camping inside the National Park

Day 6 : Mongu

Location: Mongu

Accommodation: Camp

Drive to Mongu, our stop-over at the edge of the Barotse floodplains. Here we have the possibility to stock up for the next few days in Kafue National Park. Camping on the shore of a beautiful lake.

Day 7 : Kafue National Park

Location: Kafue National Park

Accommodation: Camp

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We drive through Miombo forest to Chunga. Several small rivers cross this area. These leave a few waterholes in the dry season for the animals to quench their thirst. Wild dogs, which roam large areas of the park, cheetah and lion are among the inhabitants here. The birdlife is prolific. Camping on the banks of the Kafue River at Mayukuyuku Camp or Kasabushi Camp.

Day 8 : Kafue National Park

Location: Kafue National Park

Accommodation: Camp

We have a full day to explore the area on our game drive.

Day 9 : Lusaka

Location: Lusaka

Accommodation: Lodge, LodgeLodge

We leave the wilderness and drive on a tar-road to Zambia’s capital Lusaka. Overnight in chalets at Pioneer camp or Wilddog Lodge. Dinner in a restaurant (own expense).

Day 10 : Chipata

Location: Chipata

En route to Chipata we drive through beautiful mountainous landscape and stop at Luangwa Bridge, a thriving market, where all kinds of baskets and mats as well as hand carved items are offered. Overnight in modern rooms in Protea Hotel (B/L/-)

Day 11 : South Luangwa National Park

Location: South Luangwa National Park

Accommodation Name: Camping

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

South Luangwa is known for its abundance of African wildlife: Thorneycroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s Gnu, Crawshay’s Zebra and big herds of buffalo and elephant.
Game drives along the Luangwa River often produce spectacular sightings. Hippo families can be seen in great numbers in the river, unparalleled in Africa.

Day 12 - 14 : South Luangwa National Park

Location: South Luangwa National Park

Accommodation: Camp

During the dry season (July to October), many side channels of the river dry up, leaving the fish trapped. This attracts many species of predators, such as the African fish eagle, jackal, and hyena, to mention but a few.
The colourful Carmine bee-eaters are often seen perching in front of their nests in the riverbanks.

Day 15 : Departure

Location: Mfuwe International Airport

Transfer to the airport Mfuwe and fligt back home

Amazing introduction to the mobile safari experience in a diverse range of National Parks

Thoroughly enjoyed the safari, excellent value for money with so many game park drives. Booking holidays on "spec" and on the internet is always a gamble but there was no need to be concerned, everything worked out perfectly. Christa was extremely helpful, made sure that the booking experience was a smooth process and answered all my questions almost immediately. Andrew our tour leader/driver/guide had uncanny game spotting skills. His joy in showing us the animals and his love of his country was obvious. His enthusiasm guaranteed that we enjoyed the experience to the full. I think spending time in a diverse range of parks-Liuwa Plains, Kafue and South Luangwa ensured we saw a variety of landscapes and animals (usually without any other vehicles in sight). I would highly recommend this safari.
