Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1: Amman, Jordan
Location: Amman
Upon landing at Amman (AMM) airport, you'll be greeted by your driver who will escort you to your hotel in Amman, approximately a 40-minute journey. There are no scheduled activities for today. Please note that check-in at the hotel generally starts after 2:00 pm, although early check-in cannot be assured. Should you arrive earlier, you can store your luggage at the hotel until your room is ready.
Day 2: Amman, Jordan
Location: Amman
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today, embark on a journey north to explore the ancient Roman city of Jerash, a vibrant historical site established during the era of Alexander the Great. Jerash thrived for over a millennium as a significant trade hub positioned between Damascus and Petra. The city's colonnaded thoroughfares remain largely intact, alongside the magnificent oval forum and the grand gateway commemorating Emperor Hadrian's visit. Marvel at well-preserved remnants including the theatre, temples, baths, and hippodrome, with stunning Byzantine mosaics from the early Christian era. Savor a delectable lunch at a local eatery in Jerash. The adventure continues in Amman, the bustling capital of Jordan, characterized by its lively quarters, hospitable locals, and exquisite cuisine. Start at the citadel for panoramic views and delve into Roman and early Islamic ruins. Just below, the ancient Roman theatre, constructed during Emperor Antonius' reign, remains a hub for cultural performances, nestled within modern Amman. Stroll through the bustling markets, perhaps pausing at a quaint café to indulge in street views, observe locals in leisure, and sample Arabic coffee and sweets. This is an opportune moment to experience the aromatic realm of argeelah or hubbly bubbly. Conclude the day with an overnight stay at a Bedouin Camp in Beida.
Day 3: Amman - Petra - Amman, Jordan
Location: Amman
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
Today's adventure takes you on an extraordinary, lesser-known Bedouin path that winds through the mountains and leads into Petra. The journey begins with a scenic walk across open farmland, transitioning to a trail across eroded sandstone, offering breathtaking views over the Great Rift Valley to the west. An hour later, the trail brings you down towards Petra, unveiling the awe-inspiring rock-cut façade of ad Deir, the Monastery. Here, you can take a break, enjoy some tea, and explore the ruins, before descending the Nabataean processional stone steps into the heart of Petra. After meandering through the ancient temples and tombs, you'll exit through another secret slot canyon known as 'the Dark Siq,' eventually circling back towards Petra and entering via the main siq for a classic arrival in the city. This leads you to Petra’s iconic and most celebrated monument, the Treasury. This itinerary offers a truly spectacular day of hiking around Petra, allowing you to experience both its most remarkable routes in a single day.
SAFETY NOTE: Your guide may choose an alternative route based on your physical condition, seasonal weather, and the state of the Dark Siq during your tour. After lunch, you’ll be transferred to Amman for an overnight stay.
