Short Inca Trail Hike 2 Days to Machu Picchu

We contacted Alpaca Expeditions last minute for a short trip to Machu Pichu. We had a tight and inflexible schedule and they were able to work out a personal itinerary for us in now time. Jaime, our tour guide, was excellent. Very knowledgeable and passionate. Alex our driver brought us safely around. We are looking for to be back and do some hiking tours with them. Great company!

My husband and I were originally booked on the 4 day/3 night Inca trail. We went to the pre trek briefing, met our group and our guides (Raul and Jose who seemed wonderful and very responsible and experienced) but just a few hours before we were due to leave, I came down with a bad vomiting bug. Al Paca (especially Diego who my husband dealt with in the Cusco office) were absolutely brilliant and were able to transfer us to the 2 day/1 night trek a few days later - at no extra cost. Although we were disappointed to miss the longer hike which we’d been planning for almost a year, the shorter version was an absolutely wonderful experience. Our guide was Rodrigo (Roro) who was brilliant- full of energy and enthusiasm and information about the wildlife and history. The hike itself was spectacular- along narrow paths with dramatic drops to the valley below and stopping at various Inca ruins along the way. Rodrigo also pointed out some rare plants and flowers. Lunch on the first day (courtesy of the incredible team of porters) was at one of the campsites and was absolutely delicious. Our accommodation in Aguas calientes was excellent- clean, comfortable, with a hot shower and excellent breakfast the next day. All in all, an amazing experience- I Couldn’t recommend al paca, Rodrigo or Diego any more. And I’d also highly recommend the 2 day trek for anyone who wants hike a bit of the beautiful Andres but doesn’t have time for the full four days.

Short Inca trail hike 2D 1N - We were so lucky to have Luis as our guide! He made the hiking so much more fun... he was entertaining and full of knowledge about the Inca and Peruvian history. Did I mention he has great photography skills?!? My photos look sensational!! The check in process was easy, pick up on time, no dramas. Alpaca seems to be a company with ethical values - the guides tell me they pay fair wages, hire women to be porters and are always giving something back to the community - that was one of the reasons we chose them. The views are to die for, everyone is super helpful and the food was incredible. Seriously... this was a camping trip, but the food for me (as a vegetarian!) was top quality (not just boring pasta and potato). The camping itself was great - they have showers and PowerPoint to recharge your phone, camera etc - the only downsize was the toilet which was quite disgusting in the morning... I decided to use the one on Machu Picchu entrance (2 soles). Other highlight for me was the fact that on day one you arrive at the Sun Gate by 4pm - the view from here (way less crowded!) was amazing... so you got to see Machu Picchu twice! The guided tour next day was super informative.. the whole place has an energy and makes you wonder all the time how on earth the Incas have that knowledge. The site is way bigger than I thought to be honest.I cannot recommend Alpaca Expedition enough. We will definitely come back to Peru and will definitely book some other trips with them again. Had a great time doing the short Inca trail with our guide Roro! Everything exceeded our expectations (food, accom)! With the short Inca trail you get two opportunities to see Machu Picchu (one on each day) which was invaluable this time of year! Our guide Roro was great! Really informative and we enjoyed spending time walking the trail with him!

Alpaca Expeditions was super fast to respond with great communication, and extremely well organized. Felipe cuchuyrumi Felipao, tour guide, did a fantastic job from start to finish: very knowledgeable, fun, respectful to Peru culture and heritage. Ronaldo, did everything possible to set up the tour (incl. tickets to MP and train) for the next day which was almost impossible. Overall, great job! Keep it up guys!
